The Shard looms over everything, sure, but you’re far enough away that it doesn’t feel like you’re staying in a tourist fishbowl.

What I really appreciated was how quiet it gets at night. Southwark can be busy during the day with all the office workers, but once evening hits, it settles down nicely. The hotel itself has this modern, clean vibe without being sterile – lots of natural light in the lobby and common areas. The staff actually seem to know the neighborhood, which sounds basic but you’d be amazed how rare that is.
