Hyatt Regency London Blackfriars Overview

Honestly, I wasn’t expecting much when I first walked up to the Hyatt Regency on New Bridge Street – the building itself is this sort of imposing modern tower that doesn’t scream “charming London hotel.” But you know what? Sometimes being wrong feels pretty good, especially when you’re standing in a lobby that somehow manages to feel both sleek and welcoming at the same time.

The location is actually brilliant if you think about it. You’re literally a two-minute walk from Blackfriars station (both the tube and the mainline trains), which means you can be at St. Paul’s Cathedral in about five minutes on foot, or hop across the Thames to the South Bank without breaking a sweat. I mean, the Tate Modern is right there – you can see it from some of the upper floor rooms. What really struck me though was how quiet it gets once you’re inside, despite being surrounded by all that City bustle. The rooms on the higher floors have these floor-to-ceiling windows that make you feel like you’re floating above London, and honestly, watching the sunrise hit the dome of St. Paul’s from bed is worth the price alone. The fitness center opens ridiculously early (5 AM, I think?), which is perfect if you’re dealing with jet lag or just want to work out before the City crowd descends. One thing that surprised me – and this might sound weird – but the elevators are actually fast. You know how hotel elevators usually crawl? Not here. Small detail, but when you’re running late for a meeting in Canary Wharf, every second counts.

The staff genuinely seem to know their stuff about the neighborhood too. Instead of just pointing you toward tourist traps, they’ll tell you about Borough Market being less crowded on weekday mornings, or which pubs near Fleet Street actually serve decent food (apparently most don’t). Check-in was smooth even when I arrived stupidly early, and they stored my bags without making me feel like I was asking for a massive favor. Look, it’s not cheap – this is the City of London, after all – but if you’re here for business or want to be in the thick of historic London without staying in some cramped Georgian townhouse conversion, this place makes sense. The 8.3 rating feels about right; it’s very good at what it does, even if it won’t win any awards for quirky character. Sometimes you just want a proper shower, a comfortable bed, and to be able to walk to everything that matters. This delivers on all counts.
