Hotel Description

So I spent a few nights at Hyde London City on Old Bailey, and honestly? It’s one of those places that grows on you. When you first walk up, you’re basically staring at the back of the Old Bailey courthouse – I mean, you’re literally steps from where some of the most famous trials in British history happened. The building itself has this industrial-chic thing going on that actually works, though it might feel a bit stark if you’re expecting something traditionally London-y.

The rooms are what really won me over, though. They’ve got these floor-to-ceiling windows that flood everything with light (assuming London’s actually giving you some sun that day), and the design is clean without being cold. You know what I appreciated? The shower pressure is actually decent – not always a given in older London buildings, even renovated ones. The beds are proper comfortable too, which matters when you’ve been walking around the City all day. Fair warning though: if you’re a light sleeper, ask for a room facing away from the street. Old Bailey gets surprisingly busy with taxis and delivery trucks, especially early morning.

Location-wise, you’re in an interesting spot. It’s not touristy at all – this is proper financial district territory, which means it’s buzzing during weekdays but gets pretty quiet on weekends. St. Paul’s is literally a five-minute walk, and you can easily stroll down to the Thames or hop on the Tube at St. Paul’s station. I actually loved being able to walk to Borough Market in about fifteen minutes, and if you’re into history, you’re surrounded by it. The staff seemed to really know their stuff about the area too – they pointed me toward this little pub called The George that I never would have found otherwise. The hotel restaurant is decent enough for breakfast, though honestly, with so many great coffee shops around Paternoster Square, I ended up exploring instead. Overall, it’s solid – not flashy or over-the-top, but comfortable and well-located if you want to be in the heart of historic London without dealing with the chaos of somewhere like Covent Garden.
