Hotel Description
Honestly, when I first pulled up to 10 Gaywood Street, I wasn’t expecting much – the building looks pretty standard from the outside, you know? But step into Flat A and you’ll immediately get why this place has such solid ratings. The space actually feels like someone’s gorgeous London flat that they’ve temporarily handed over to you, not some sterile hotel room with identical furniture.
The two bedrooms are genuinely spacious by London standards (and I mean proper London standards, not the “cozy” euphemism estate agents love). The main bedroom gets lovely morning light, though if you’re a light sleeper, just know that Gaywood Street does get some early morning delivery trucks – nothing crazy, but worth mentioning. What really impressed me was how thoughtfully everything’s set up. The kitchen has actual cooking equipment, not just a kettle and some sad plates. There’s a proper coffee maker, decent knives, even olive oil and basic spices left behind. Little touches like that make such a difference when you’re staying somewhere for more than a night or two.
Location-wise, you’re in this sweet spot in Southwark where you feel properly London without being crushed by tourists every time you step outside. Borough Market is maybe a seven-minute walk – perfect for weekend mornings when you want proper coffee and those incredible cheese toasties from Kappacasein. The Shard’s right there if you’re into that sort of thing, but honestly, I’d skip the expensive views and just walk along the Thames path toward Tower Bridge instead. You’re also close enough to London Bridge station that getting anywhere is pretty straightforward, though the Northern line can be a bit mental during rush hour – but that’s just London being London.
One thing I really appreciated was how quiet the flat stays despite being so central. The windows are actually decent quality, and the bedroom at the back barely gets any street noise. The bathroom’s compact but well-designed, with one of those rainfall showers that actually has good pressure. Check-in was smooth too – they send you codes beforehand so no awkward waiting around or hunting for key collection points. The whole Graceful Apartments setup feels professional without being impersonal, if that makes sense.
Look, this isn’t going to blow your mind with luxury amenities or anything, but it nails what most people actually want: a comfortable, clean space that feels like home in a neighborhood where you’ll want to spend time. The 8.9 rating feels about right – it’s the kind of place where everything just works without any nasty surprises. Perfect for couples who want their own space, or friends who don’t mind sharing that single bathroom. Just maybe grab groceries from the Tesco Express on Borough High Street rather than the tiny corner shops nearby – better selection and you won’t pay quite as much for basics.
