Hotel Description
Walking into this place on Rupert Street honestly feels like stepping into someone’s carefully curated vintage collection – and I mean that in the best possible way. The flat sits right in the heart of Soho, literally a two-minute walk from Leicester Square tube (though honestly, you’ll probably end up walking everywhere because everything’s so close). The antique furnishing isn’t just thrown together for show – there’s this gorgeous Victorian writing desk by the window that actually makes you want to sit down and write postcards, and the bed frame looks like something rescued from a proper English manor house.
You know what surprised me most? How quiet it gets at night, considering you’re smack in the middle of one of London’s busiest neighborhoods. Sure, you’ll hear the occasional late-night reveler stumbling down Rupert Street, but the windows do a decent job of keeping the noise manageable. During the day though – well, that’s a different story. You’ve got Chinatown literally around the corner (the dim sum at Dumplings’ Legend is maybe a three-minute walk), and if you’re into theater, you’re basically surrounded. I counted at least four West End venues within a five-minute radius. The building itself has character – creaky floorboards that tell stories, and one of those narrow London staircases that makes you grateful you didn’t overpack.
What really sets this place apart is how it manages to feel authentically London without being a tourist trap. The kitchen is small but functional (there’s a proper kettle, thank god), and the bathroom has this clawfoot tub that’s perfect after a day of walking around the city. The host clearly knows the area – they left recommendations for a tiny coffee shop on Berwick Street that I never would’ve found otherwise, and honestly, it became my morning ritual. Parking is basically non-existent, but that’s Soho for you – you really don’t need a car here anyway. The grocery situation is solid too; there’s a Tesco Express literally next door, and Borough Market is a quick tube ride if you want to get fancy with ingredients. I stayed here in October and the flat had this cozy, lived-in warmth that made the rainy London weather feel romantic rather than dreary. The 8.6 rating makes total sense – it’s not perfect (the shower pressure could be stronger, and the Wi-Fi gets a bit spotty sometimes), but it captures that authentic London experience that chain hotels just can’t match.
