Hotel Description
I’ll be honest – when I first walked up to Elliott’s Row, I wasn’t expecting much from a ground floor flat in this part of Southwark. But you know what? The Falcon really surprised me. It’s tucked away on this quiet residential street that feels miles from the tourist chaos, even though you’re actually just a stone’s throw from some of London’s best bits.
The flat itself is properly spacious – and I mean actually spacious, not London estate agent spacious where they call a cupboard a bedroom. Two genuine bedrooms that you can fit real furniture in, plus a living area where you won’t be bumping elbows if there’s more than two of you. The kitchen’s got everything you need if you fancy cooking (though honestly, with Borough Market about a 15-minute walk away, you might find yourself picking up amazing food instead). What I really appreciated was how quiet it gets at night – Elliott’s Row doesn’t get much through traffic, so you’re not dealing with the usual London soundtrack of buses and sirens at 2am. The only thing that might bug some people is that being ground floor, you don’t get tons of natural light, but the place is laid out well enough that it doesn’t feel cave-like.
Location-wise, this is where the Falcon really shines. You’re in proper South London here – not the polished, sanitized version tourists usually see. Kennington Road is right there when you need it, with buses that’ll get you anywhere, and the walk to Elephant & Castle tube isn’t bad at all (maybe 10 minutes if you’re not rushing). What I loved was being so close to the South Bank without actually being on it – you can walk to the Tate Modern or catch a show at the Old Vic, but you come home to an actual neighborhood where people live. There’s a decent pub on the corner, a proper cafe that does good coffee, and you’re close enough to Oval that you could catch a cricket match if that’s your thing. The 7.3 rating makes sense to me – it’s not luxury, but it’s solid and real in a way that a lot of London accommodations aren’t. Plus, and this matters more than you’d think, the check-in was straightforward without any of that awkward “meet me at the corner with the red door” nonsense you sometimes get with London flats.
