Sonder The Bard

You know what struck me first about Sonder The Bard? The name actually makes sense once you’re there – it’s got this creative, slightly bohemian vibe that fits perfectly with its Fitzrovia location. Tucked on Tottenham Street, you’re literally a two-minute walk from the chaos of Oxford Street, but it feels like a completely different world. I mean, step outside and you’ve got Charlotte Street with all its buzzy restaurants right there, plus you can easily walk to the British Museum without dealing with the tube.

The building itself has that classic London townhouse feel, but they’ve done something clever with the interiors – it’s modern without being sterile, if you know what I mean. The rooms are actually spacious by London standards (honestly, that’s saying something), and they’ve nailed the lighting, which is rare for boutique places. What I really appreciated was the kitchenette setup – not just a sad mini-fridge, but proper appliances you’d actually use. The beds are genuinely comfortable too, though the walls aren’t the thickest, so you might hear your neighbors if they’re having a particularly good time. But honestly, that’s London for you.

Here’s the thing about the location that most people don’t realize – you’re in this sweet spot where you can walk to both Regent’s Park and Soho in about ten minutes, and there’s a Waitrose practically next door for when you need provisions. The nearby pubs (The Fitzroy Tavern is a proper classic) give you that authentic London experience without the tourist crowds you’ll find around Covent Garden. Parking is obviously a nightmare like anywhere in Zone 1, but the tube connections are brilliant – Goodge Street and Tottenham Court Road stations are both super close. I’d definitely stay here again, especially if you’re someone who likes to explore on foot and wants to feel like you’re actually living in London rather than just visiting it. The 8.1 rating feels about right – it’s solidly good without being perfect, and sometimes that’s exactly what you want.
