Hotel Description
Honestly, when I first walked up to this place on St John Street, I wasn’t sure what to expect – the entrance is sort of tucked between other buildings in that typical London way where you might walk past it twice. But once you’re inside Flat 6, it’s actually a really solid setup. The apartment feels properly spacious for London standards, and you know what strikes you immediately? The windows. They’re big enough that you get decent natural light, which is honestly half the battle in these converted buildings around Islington.
The location is where this place really shines, though I mean that in a practical way, not just the usual “convenient location” nonsense. You’re literally a five-minute walk from Farringdon station – and I’m talking about the actual walking time, not estate agent walking time. That puts you on the Elizabeth Line, which is brilliant for getting to Heathrow or across to Canary Wharf. But here’s what I really appreciated: you’re right in the sweet spot between Clerkenwell and Islington proper. Exmouth Market is just around the corner (their weekend food stalls are genuinely good), and you’ve got Smithfield Market nearby if you’re the type who likes wandering around at odd hours. The Eagle pub is practically on your doorstep – proper gastropub, been there forever, locals actually drink there.
The apartment itself is well-kitted out, though it’s definitely more “comfortable and practical” than “luxury” despite what the name suggests. The kitchen has everything you’d actually need if you want to cook rather than eat out every meal, and the bed is honestly pretty decent – I slept well, no weird lumps or that hotel-stiffness thing. One thing though: it can get a bit noisy on weekend evenings since St John Street does see some foot traffic from people heading to the bars around Angel. Nothing terrible, but if you’re a super light sleeper, maybe pack earplugs. The 7.6 rating feels about right – it’s a really good place to stay, just don’t expect perfection. Check-in was straightforward, though you’ll want to coordinate timing since it’s not like a hotel front desk. All in all, if you want to actually feel like you’re staying in London rather than just visiting it, and you don’t mind being slightly away from the obvious tourist bits, this works really well.
