The Sanctuary House Hotel Overview
First Impressions
Walking up to The Sanctuary House Hotel on Tothill Street, you’d honestly never guess what a gem you’re about to discover. This three-star property sits right in the thick of Westminster — I mean, you’re literally a stone’s throw from Big Ben and Parliament. The building itself has this classic London charm that doesn’t scream “tourist trap,” which I actually appreciated. It feels more like a well-kept secret that locals might recommend rather than something you’d stumble across in every guidebook.
Location That Actually Matters
Here’s the thing about staying in London — location can make or break your trip, and this place absolutely nails it. You’re positioned perfectly between Westminster Abbey and St. James’s Park, so morning walks become something special rather than a chore. What really struck me was how couples seem to gravitate toward this spot — apparently they rate the location nearly perfect for romantic getaways, and honestly, I get it. There’s something about being able to stroll to the Thames in five minutes that just works. Plus, you’ve got Victoria Station close enough that getting anywhere else in the city is actually painless.
The Room Experience
I’ll be straight with you — this isn’t about flashy amenities or over-the-top indulgence. What you get instead is a room that’s been thoughtfully designed with comfort as the priority. The beds here are genuinely excellent (apparently other guests rave about them too), and after walking around London all day, that matters more than you might think. The space feels cozy rather than cramped, which is no small feat in central London. You know what I appreciated most? The attention to details that actually affect your stay — good lighting, proper storage space, and windows that actually open for fresh air.
Breakfast Worth Mentioning
Breakfast here surprised me in the best way possible. They’ve got the full English sorted, obviously, but what caught my attention was how they handle dietary restrictions — vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free options that don’t feel like afterthoughts. I watched them prepare everything fresh, and you can tell they take it seriously. It’s not just fuel for the day; it’s actually a pleasant way to start your morning before heading out to explore. The dining area has this relaxed atmosphere where you don’t feel rushed, which is refreshing when you’re used to hotel breakfast feeling like a conveyor belt.
Why Guests Love It
What makes this place work isn’t any single standout feature — it’s how everything comes together sensibly. You’re paying for a solid, comfortable base in an unbeatable location without the premium that comes with unnecessary frills. The staff seems to understand that most guests are here to explore London, not hang around the hotel, so they focus on making sure you sleep well and start your day right. For couples especially, there’s something appealing about having Westminster as your backyard while staying somewhere that feels intimate rather than overwhelming. It’s the kind of place you’d actually recommend to friends without any caveats.
Locals suggest to book apartments in London around Marylebone for farmers markets, bookshops, and leafy mews.

The location is gold – step outside and look down to Westminster Abbey and Big Ben. A few blocks away are shops & restaurants like The Ivy. We walked to see a show at the Victoria Palace Theater. The restaurant downstairs is great for breakfast and for dinner. It was busy, but staff was great and food prepared well. Family room was spacious. Really appreciated the coffee pods, tea, hot chocolate and cookies. Fridge was great for storing snacks and leftovers. Curtains were great to block out the light. Not noisy!

Perfect location for getting around the sights. A lot of them were within walking distance, but plenty of taxis nearby.
Breakfast was plentiful and a good variety of fruits/pastries and bread on the buffet section. Hot breakfast freshly cooked.
Special mention to Fabio on Reception. Helped us to book some London Eye tickets and nothing was too much trouble. Thanks Fabio.Peter from United Kingdom (9/10)
Lovely friendly atmosphere, comfortable surroundings & tastefully decorated. Quiet location, yet only a stones throw from everything, would definitely use again if travelling to London.

Comfy bed, amazing location right by the sights of Westminster. Really friendly and helpful staff, nice and quiet in the room (top floor) and easy to adjust room temperature.
