Holiday Inn Express London Croydon, an IHG Hotel Overview

First Impressions

Walking into Holiday Inn Express London Croydon, an IHG Hotel, you immediately get that reassuring feeling of a well-run three-star property that knows exactly what it’s doing. The lobby’s modern and clean without trying too hard to be fancy — which honestly works perfectly for Croydon. I mean, this isn’t central London, and the hotel doesn’t pretend to be something it’s not. What struck me right away was how the staff seemed genuinely happy to see guests, not just going through the motions.

Location & Getting Around

Here’s the thing about staying in Croydon — you’re actually in a pretty smart spot if you know how to work it. The hotel sits on Priddy’s Yard, which sounds quaint but is really just a quiet side street off the main drag. You’re about a 10-minute walk to East Croydon station, and from there it’s roughly 15 minutes by train into central London. The area’s got that suburban London vibe with plenty of shops and cafes nearby, plus there’s decent parking if you’re driving — something you definitely can’t take for granted around London.

The Room Experience

My room was exactly what you’d expect from Holiday Inn Express — compact but cleverly designed with everything you actually need. The bed was properly comfortable (not just hotel-marketing comfortable), and the shower had good pressure, which honestly makes or breaks a stay for me. The air conditioning worked well, which was a relief during my summer visit. You know what I appreciated? The blackout curtains actually blocked out light, and the soundproofing was better than I expected for a hotel right off a main road.

Breakfast & Dining

The complimentary breakfast here is where this place really shines — and I’m not just saying that because it’s free. They’ve got a proper buffet setup with continental options, plus they actually cater well to different dietary needs with vegetarian and gluten-free choices clearly marked. The coffee’s decent (not amazing, but definitely drinkable), and they keep everything well-stocked even during busy morning periods. There isn’t a full restaurant on-site, but honestly, with Croydon’s dining scene right outside your door, you don’t really need one.

Why Guests Love It

What really sets this hotel apart is the repeat guest factor — apparently there are way more people coming back here than at most other properties, and after staying here, I totally get why. It’s that sweet spot of reliable comfort without the premium price tag of central London hotels. Couples seem to particularly love it here, probably because it strikes that perfect balance of being close enough to London for day trips but far enough out to feel like you’re not sleeping in the middle of tourist chaos. The staff genuinely seem to care about making your stay work, and sometimes that personal touch matters more than fancy amenities you’ll never use.
