Olympic House Hotel Overview
First Impressions
Walking up to Olympic House Hotel on Sussex Gardens, you’ll notice it’s one of those classic Victorian townhouse conversions that London does so well. The building has that traditional white facade you see throughout Paddington, and honestly, it fits right into the neighborhood without trying too hard. It’s a three-star place that knows exactly what it is — comfortable, unpretentious, and surprisingly well-positioned for exploring the city.
Location That Actually Matters
Here’s what I love about this spot — you’re literally a five-minute walk from Paddington Station, which means the Heathrow Express is right there when you need it. But more importantly, you can walk to Hyde Park in about three minutes, and I mean actually walk, not that “walking distance” hotels always claim that turns out to be twenty minutes. The area around Sussex Gardens has that residential feel during the day, but you’ve got plenty of cafes and pubs within a block or two. Lancaster Gate tube station is close enough that you’ll barely think about transport into central London.
The Room Experience
The room I stayed in was compact but thoughtfully arranged — you know, the kind of space where everything has its place and nothing feels cramped. The bed was actually comfortable (not always a given in this price range), and the window looked out onto the tree-lined street, which was nice for morning coffee. The bathroom was small but clean, with decent water pressure — honestly, that’s half the battle in older London buildings. There’s no restaurant on-site, but with the neighborhood options and easy access to everything, you won’t miss it.
Practical Details
What struck me most was how the staff seemed to genuinely know the area — they gave me directions to places that weren’t just the obvious tourist spots. The check-in process was smooth, and they were helpful about storing luggage before my room was ready. The building itself is quiet, which surprised me given how close you are to the main roads. I mean, you’ll hear some street noise during the day, but nothing that kept me awake at night.
Why Guests Love It
Look, this isn’t the fanciest place in London, but it gets the fundamentals right. You’re paying for location and comfort, not elaborate amenities, and that trade-off works really well here. The fact that couples rate the location so highly tells you something — when you’re exploring together, being able to walk to Hyde Park for a morning stroll or catch a quick tube to Covent Garden without planning your whole day around transport makes a real difference. It’s the kind of place where you’ll spend your time out in the city, then come back to a clean, comfortable room that feels like a proper base rather than just somewhere to crash.
To book a hotel in London during Wimbledon, visitors plan ahead to balance lawn-side matches with Thames sunset walks.

Staff were welcoming and helpful. Appreciated being able to leave off baggage before check-in and again after checking out. Location is excellent – close to paddington, parks, and public transport, yet also quiet. I found it warm and comfortable for getting over initial effects of jet lag. WiFi good. Continental breakfast – cereal, fresh toast at table, cheese, ham and pain chocolate on buffet table.
