Woodman Pub Overview
First Impressions
The Woodman Pub isn’t your typical hotel — it’s actually a proper British pub with rooms upstairs, and honestly, that’s exactly what makes it so charming. Located on Durnsford Road in London, this three-star spot sits in Wimbledon, which means you’re close enough to the action but far enough out to feel like you’re experiencing real London life. The moment you walk in, you’ll notice the authentic pub atmosphere downstairs — dark wood, the smell of proper fish and chips, and locals chatting over pints.
The Neighborhood Feel
What I love about this area is how genuinely local it feels. You’re in SW19, which puts you right in Wimbledon territory — and I mean, if you’re here during tennis season, you know what that means. But even when the championships aren’t on, this part of London has this lovely residential vibe that most tourists never get to experience. There’s a reason couples rate the location so highly (8.5 out of 10, actually) — it’s got that perfect balance of being connected to central London while feeling like you’ve discovered something off the beaten path.
Your Room Experience
The room situation here is refreshingly straightforward. You’re not getting fancy amenities or marble bathrooms, but what you do get is clean, comfortable accommodation with character. The rooms have that slightly quirky British charm — think slanted ceilings in some spots and windows that look out over proper London streets. I mean, you’re literally sleeping above a working pub, so there’s something wonderfully authentic about the whole experience. The soundproofing is better than you’d expect, though you might catch the occasional burst of laughter from downstairs on weekend nights.
The Pub Downstairs
Here’s where things get interesting — the restaurant and bar downstairs isn’t just for show. This is a real neighborhood pub that serves proper British food, and the locals actually drink here. You can grab breakfast, lunch, or dinner without stepping outside, and the Sunday roast is genuinely good (I’m talking proper Yorkshire pudding and everything). The staff behind the bar know their regulars by name, and they’ll treat you like one too if you stick around for more than one pint. It’s this kind of authentic local experience that you just can’t manufacture.
Why Guests Love It
The 8.3 location rating from recent guests tells the real story here. You’re getting genuine London character at a price that won’t destroy your travel budget, and you’re staying somewhere with actual personality. The transport links are solid — you can get into central London easily enough, but you’re also perfectly positioned to explore Wimbledon Common or catch a match if you’re here at the right time. What really sets the Woodman Pub apart is that it doesn’t try to be something it’s not. It’s a proper British pub with comfortable rooms, run by people who actually care about giving you a real London experience rather than some sanitized tourist version.
London hotels keep guests close to gallery quarters, Michelin markets, and tube connections.

We were very happy about our room. The pub is also close to the underground and we got to places easily. The staff was also very friendly.
Tatjana from Switzerland (9/10)
Great location with a really nice pub just below the rooms. But I couldn’t hear anything – very quiet.
The Tube Station is just around the corner and a bus stop right outside the door.
The food at the pub is great too!Ana from Romania (7/10)
Location , easy to reach central London with Metro. Bus station right in front of the hotel.Good size room, warm in late October, friendly staff.
Joanne from Spain (8/10)
I was upgraded to a fantastic room, with a sofa, balcony and lovely bathroom. The people working at the Woodman are friendly and helpful and made my stay really enjoyable. The pub downstairs serves very good food and even when it’s busy the room is quiet. They give a discount on drinks if you are staying there which adds to the fact that it is really good value for money.
Patryk from Sweden (8/10)
Cozy rooms, comfortable bed, the staff was very friendly 🙂 having previously stayed in more central London, I really enjoyed Wimbledon, with its more genuine (and less touristy) atmosphere. Still, the location is very well connected and it is easy to move anywhere around the city.

Bed was clean. Room was a good size.
