King Charles Hotel Overview
First Impressions
The King Charles Hotel sits right on Brompton Road in Gillingham, and honestly, it’s one of those places that surprises you in the best way. This three-star property doesn’t try to be something it’s not — instead, it focuses on getting the basics absolutely right. The moment you pull up, you’ll notice the free parking right there (which, trust me, is a godsend in this area), and the whole place has this welcoming, unpretentious vibe that immediately puts you at ease.
Location & Getting Around
What really struck me about this spot is how well-positioned it is for exploring the Medway area. You’re close enough to Rochester’s historic attractions but far enough from the tourist crowds to actually relax. The couples who stay here clearly get it — they’ve rated the location 8.5 out of 10, and I can see why. You’ve got easy access to the M2 if you’re driving, but there’s also plenty to discover right in Gillingham itself. The fact that so many guests come back repeatedly tells you something about how this place grows on you.
The Room Experience
My room was exactly what you’d expect from a well-run three-star hotel — clean, comfortable, and thoughtfully arranged. Nothing fancy, but everything worked perfectly. The beds are genuinely comfortable (not just hotel-speak comfortable), and the bathrooms are spotless. You know what I appreciated most? The little touches that show someone actually cares — proper blackout curtains, decent water pressure, and outlets where you actually need them. The furnishings are modern and durable, designed to withstand regular use while maintaining their appeal.
Breakfast & Dining
The breakfast situation here is actually impressive for a hotel this size. They’ve got the full spread — continental options, proper full English breakfast, and they’re surprisingly good with dietary requirements. I mean, they do vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free options without making you feel like an afterthought. The buffet setup works well, and the quality is consistently good. It’s the kind of breakfast that actually sets you up for the day rather than just filling a gap. The restaurant staff are attentive and friendly, making the morning meal a genuine highlight of your stay.
Why Guests Love It
Here’s the thing about King Charles Hotel — it’s earned a 7.9 rating by simply doing everything well without any fuss. The staff genuinely seem to care about your stay, the repeat guest numbers speak volumes about the consistency, and there’s something refreshingly honest about the whole operation. It’s not trying to be boutique or trendy; it’s just a really solid choice that delivers on its promises. For couples especially, this seems to hit that sweet spot of good location, reliable comfort, and fair value that keeps them coming back. Whether you’re visiting for business or leisure, you’ll find this hotel meets your expectations reliably.

We have stayed before and like the non franchise feel of the place. It also feels safe. Rooms are comfortable and plenty of room. Very good value for money. Nice check in and bar staff. Fantastic fish tanks and pond.
