Moxy London Excel Overview
First Impressions
Walking into Moxy London Excel, you immediately get that this isn’t your typical corporate hotel. The lobby buzzes with energy — there’s something refreshingly unpretentious about the whole vibe. It’s a four-star property that doesn’t take itself too seriously, which honestly feels like a breath of fresh air in London. The staff actually seem to enjoy being there, and you know what? That makes all the difference when you’re dealing with travel fatigue.
Location & Getting Around
Here’s the thing about staying near Excel — you’re not in central London, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing. The hotel sits right in the heart of the Docklands, and if you’re attending an event at the exhibition center, you literally can’t get closer. The DLR station is a short walk away, which means you can zip into Canary Wharf in minutes or reach central London in about 30 minutes. I mean, couples seem to really appreciate this spot (they rate it 8.4), probably because it feels like you’re discovering a different side of the city. Plus, there’s actual parking here — try finding that in Zone 1.
The Room Experience
The rooms are compact but cleverly designed — think modern efficiency rather than cramped. What really stands out is how comfortable the beds are; guests consistently rave about getting proper sleep here, which is honestly half the battle when you’re traveling. Each room has this industrial-chic thing going on with pops of color that keep it from feeling sterile. The bathrooms are small but functional, and the shower pressure is actually decent (you’d be surprised how often that’s not the case in London hotels).
Breakfast & Dining
The breakfast setup is straightforward — it’s a buffet that covers all the basics without trying to be fancy. You’ll find your standard English breakfast items alongside lighter continental options. Nothing groundbreaking, but it does the job and gets you fueled up for the day. The restaurant area doubles as a social space in the evenings, and there’s usually a good mix of business travelers and tourists hanging around. It’s one of those places where you might actually end up chatting with fellow guests.
Why Guests Love It
What makes this place work is that it knows exactly what it is — a smart, well-located hotel that doesn’t pretend to be something it’s not. The location consistently gets high marks (8.3 from recent guests), and when you factor in those genuinely comfortable beds and the easy access to both Excel and central London, it starts to make perfect sense. It’s particularly great if you’re mixing business with pleasure or want to explore the Docklands area, which has really come into its own in recent years. The whole experience feels refreshingly straightforward — no fuss, just solid hospitality in a part of London that’s worth getting to know.

A delight is being able to come back and relax at the bar or to supply yourself with drinks and snacks at the bar 24/7 as there is not shop in the vicinity at all.Simon from United Kingdom (7/10)
