Crowne Plaza London – Docklands, an IHG Hotel Overview

First Impressions

Walking into Crowne Plaza London – Docklands, an IHG Hotel feels like discovering a hidden gem in one of London’s most transformed neighborhoods. This four-star property sits right on Royal Victoria Dock, and honestly, the waterfront setting caught me off guard — in the best possible way. You’re not in touristy central London here, but that’s actually what makes it special. The lobby has this modern, understated elegance that doesn’t try too hard, and the staff genuinely seem happy to see you.

The Docklands Advantage

Here’s what I love about this location — you get proper London views without the chaos. The Docklands area has this fascinating mix of gleaming office towers and converted warehouses, plus the ExCeL exhibition center is practically next door if you’re here on business. The DLR (that’s the Docklands Light Railway) connects you to central London in about 20 minutes, and there’s something quite satisfying about gliding above the city on those elevated tracks. Couples seem to really get this spot too — I can see why they rate it so highly for romantic getaways.

Sleep Quality That Actually Delivers

You know what’s rare? A hotel that actually lives up to its reputation for comfortable beds. I mean, everyone claims to have amazing mattresses, but this place genuinely delivers on that promise. The room I stayed in had blackout curtains that actually worked (miracle!), and the air conditioning was quiet enough that I forgot it was running. The bathrooms are well-designed too — proper water pressure and enough space to spread out your toiletries without everything falling into the sink.

Breakfast and Practical Bits

The breakfast setup here strikes a nice balance between Continental and Full English options, so whether you want pastries and coffee or the full bacon-and-eggs experience, you’re sorted. What impressed me was the quality — the ingredients actually taste fresh, not like they’ve been sitting under heat lamps since dawn. There’s parking available on-site, which is honestly a godsend in London, and the rates aren’t completely outrageous. The restaurant serves decent food throughout the day, though I’d recommend exploring the local area for dinner — there are some excellent spots within walking distance.

Why Guests Love It

The repeat guest rate here tells you everything you need to know — people come back because it works. It’s not flashy or trying to be the trendiest hotel in London, but it nails the fundamentals that business travelers and leisure guests actually care about. The location gives you easy access to both the financial district and central London attractions, while the waterfront setting feels like a proper escape from the urban intensity. Plus, the staff seem to remember returning guests, which creates this welcoming atmosphere that’s hard to fake. If you want reliable comfort with a touch of London’s modern transformation story, this place delivers without the premium price tag of central London hotels.

To book a hotel in London during Wimbledon, visitors plan ahead to balance lawn-side matches with Thames sunset walks.

Location is excellent and easy access to tube station which is a bonus. Staff were really friendly and allowed us to drop off bags a good few hours prior to check in as we were out for the afternoon. Check in was easy and the room was huge – such a rarity nowadays to find rooms that are not just a bed and bathroom. We had a little sofa, plenty of cupboard space ample room to be able to get changed without being on top of each other. The pool and jacuzzi are fairly small but not an issue for us, we only wanted to chill out rather than spend hours in there. I would say 3 – 4 people at best and the jacuzzi is full! Steam room was lovely and unlike some that we have used lately was actually kicking out a good amount of heat. Sauna was in each changing room so bear this in mind, the other half won't be joining you, but again, not an issue. All round hotel was very clean and well presented. Only stayed the one night but would most definitely use again for an extended stay and use the local restaurants which surround the hotel.
