Clayton Hotel City of London Overview
First Impressions
Walking up to the Clayton Hotel City of London on New Drum Street, you immediately get that feeling of being right in the thick of things without the chaos. This four-star property sits in Tower Hamlets, and honestly, the location couldn’t be better — there’s something about being this close to the Tower of London and the Thames that makes you feel like you’re experiencing the real London. The building itself has that modern, polished look that tells you they’ve thought about the details, but it doesn’t try too hard to impress.
The Neighborhood Advantage
You know what really struck me about this spot? It’s in what locals consider one of the best areas in London, and I can see why couples rate it so highly for romantic getaways. You’re literally walking distance from Tower Bridge — I mean, you can stroll there in about ten minutes — and the whole area has this perfect mix of historic charm and modern energy. The Tube connections are excellent too, which matters when you want to explore other parts of the city without spending half your day on transport.
The Room Experience
The room I stayed in was exactly what you’d expect from a well-run four-star hotel — clean lines, comfortable bed, and those little touches that show they understand business travelers and tourists alike. The windows are actually decent-sized, so you get proper natural light during the day, and the bathroom setup works well whether you’re rushing out for meetings or taking your time getting ready for dinner. Nothing groundbreaking, but everything just works the way it should.
Morning Fuel
Breakfast here is one of those experiences that sets the tone for your whole day. They do both the full English and Irish options alongside a proper buffet spread, and honestly, after trying hotel breakfasts across London, this one stands out. The quality is consistent — you’re not gambling on whether the eggs will be decent or the coffee will be drinkable. I actually found myself looking forward to breakfast each morning, which doesn’t always happen when you’re staying somewhere for several days.
Why Guests Love It
The thing about Clayton Hotel City of London is that it delivers on the fundamentals without any unnecessary fuss. You’re staying in one of London’s most desirable areas, the staff knows what they’re doing, and you can walk to major attractions or hop on public transport with equal ease. It’s the kind of place that works whether you’re here for business, a romantic weekend, or just want a solid base for exploring the city. The 8.5 rating makes perfect sense when you experience how everything just clicks together — location, service, and that feeling that you’ve chosen well.
Exploring London drifts through historic pubs, modern galleries, and dusk-lit bridges arching over the Thames.
