Here’s what I love about this spot in London — you’re technically still in the city, but East Sheen feels like a proper neighborhood rather than a tourist zone. Richmond Park is literally a few minutes’ walk away, which means you can actually go for a morning run among deer (yes, real deer) before most of London wakes up. The couples who rate this location so highly aren’t wrong — there’s something romantic about being tucked away in this leafy corner of southwest London while still having decent transport links into central areas.

The Room Experience

The rooms upstairs are honestly better than I expected from what’s essentially a gastropub. They’ve clearly put thought into the design without going overboard — comfortable beds, good lighting for reading, and windows that actually open (which you’d be surprised how rare that is in London hotels). My room had a nice view over the quiet residential street, and the soundproofing was solid enough that I barely heard the pub activity below, even on a Friday night.

Food & Dining

This is where The Victoria really shines, and I mean that — the food reputation isn’t just marketing fluff. The restaurant downstairs serves what I’d call elevated pub food, the kind where you can taste that they’re actually sourcing decent ingredients. Breakfast was particularly impressive with proper options for everyone — I watched them prepare fresh vegan dishes alongside traditional full English plates without any of that “oh, you’re the difficult one” attitude. The continental spread was actually continental, not just sad pastries and instant coffee.

What really sets this place apart is how it manages to feel both local and welcoming to outsiders.   When we checked in we were given a downstairs room with frosted window. It was dark and not very welcoming. When we returned later in the evening we asked another member of staff if any other rooms were available. We were given an upstairs room. Not only did it have a view of greenery but it was slightly bigger than the first room shown. It was comfortable and quiet and perfect for our one night stay in a location close to family and Richmond Park.
