The Selwyn, Richmond Overview
First Impressions
Walking up to The Selwyn, Richmond on Sheen Road, you immediately get the sense this is one of those places locals have been quietly recommending for years. It’s a four-star boutique hotel that doesn’t try too hard — the kind of spot where the staff actually remembers your name after one night. The building itself has this lovely Georgian charm that fits perfectly with Richmond’s village-like atmosphere, and honestly, you can tell from the moment you step inside that someone really cares about the details here.
Perfect Richmond Location
The location is genuinely brilliant, and I mean that — couples rate it 9.5 out of 10, which makes complete sense once you’re there. You’re literally a five-minute walk from Richmond Green, where you can watch cricket matches on summer evenings, and the Thames is just down the hill. What I love is that you can stroll to Richmond Park (those famous deer!) in about ten minutes, but you’re also only a quick train ride from central London. The High Street with its mix of independent shops and well-known brands is right there, plus you’ve got some fantastic pubs nearby — The Cricketers is particularly good if you want proper British atmosphere.
The Room Experience
My room was exactly what you’d hope for in a place like this — thoughtfully designed without being fussy. The beds are genuinely comfortable (not just hotel-speak comfortable), and there’s enough space to actually unpack properly. What struck me was the attention to small things: good lighting for reading, proper hangers in the wardrobe, and a bathroom that feels like someone’s lovely home rather than a generic hotel setup. The windows open properly too, which is surprisingly rare these days, and you get nice views of the surrounding Victorian terraces.
Breakfast Worth Getting Up For
The breakfast situation here is actually impressive — they do continental, vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free options in a proper buffet setup. I’m usually skeptical of hotel breakfasts, but this one works. The coffee is decent (always my first test), and they have those little touches that show they’re thinking about what people actually want to eat. You know what I particularly appreciated? They don’t rush you out, so you can sit with your coffee and plan your day without feeling like you’re taking up valuable table space.
Why Guests Love It
There’s parking on-site, which anyone who’s tried to park in Richmond will tell you is worth its weight in gold. But beyond the practical stuff, The Selwyn just gets the balance right — it’s polished enough that you feel looked after, but relaxed enough that you’re not worried about using the wrong fork. The 8.7 rating reflects what you experience: a place that consistently delivers without any nasty surprises. Whether you’re using it as a base for exploring London or just want a proper weekend away in one of the capital’s most charming areas, it’s the sort of hotel that makes the whole trip feel more special.

Richmond is my favorite area in London, and the Selwyn Hotel was absolutely perfect. The reception staff were very attentive and helpful. The rooms were spotless and beautifully decorated. The location is fantastic—close to the train station and also easily accessible to the city center by taxi or other means. I also loved your Christmas decorations; they added such a warm touch. Everything was amazing!

This is a very nice and clean hotel in a lovely area in Richmond, close to many cafes, restaurants, pubs and supermarkets. The room was exactly as described and was very clean and nicely styled. The staff were excellent and assisted us with a late checkout and luggage storage which helped us a lot.
James from United Kingdom (9/10)
Great location with easy parking and very friendly staff. I often stay in Richmond when in London so you can enjoy the benefit of the tube into central and still enjoy a walk in the park or along the river in the morning. The rooms are very well equipped and it was nice to work in the bar area.
