Rubens At The Palace Overview
First Impressions
Walking up to Rubens At The Palace on Buckingham Palace Road, you honestly can’t miss the fact that you’re staying practically next door to royalty. I mean, the Queen’s official residence is literally across the street — you can wave at the guards from some of the windows. This five-star hotel has that classic London elegance without feeling stuffy, and the doormen actually remember your name after the first day, which is a nice touch you don’t always get even at luxury properties.
The Heart of Royal London
The location is absolutely unbeatable if you want to be in the thick of things. You’re a two-minute walk from Victoria Station, which connects you to everywhere — Gatwick Airport, the Eurostar terminal, the Underground. But honestly, you might not need the tube much because Westminster Abbey, Big Ben, and St. James’s Park are all within easy walking distance. Couples seem to love this spot (they rate it nearly perfect), and I get why — there’s something pretty romantic about strolling through London with Buckingham Palace as your backdrop.
The Rooms
The room I stayed in had this perfect blend of traditional British style and modern comfort. The beds here are genuinely exceptional — I’m usually a light sleeper, but I slept like a rock every night. Some rooms have direct palace views (worth requesting if you can swing it), while others overlook the quieter courtyard. The bathrooms are spacious with proper bathtubs, and you know what? The water pressure is actually decent, which isn’t always a given in older London buildings.
Dining and Amenities
Breakfast is served in their main restaurant, and they’ve got options for everyone — full English if you want the works, continental if you’re keeping it light, or American-style if you’re missing home. The buffet setup means you’re not waiting around, which is great when you’ve got a packed sightseeing day ahead. The hotel also has a proper afternoon tea service that feels authentically British without being too touristy. There’s parking available too, though honestly, you probably won’t need a car in this part of town.
Why Guests Love It
What really sets this place apart is how it manages to feel both grand and welcoming. The staff genuinely seems to enjoy helping guests figure out the best routes to attractions or snagging last-minute theater tickets. The luxury touches are there — beautiful fabrics, antique furniture, impeccable service — but it never feels pretentious. Plus, there’s something pretty special about ending your day exploring London’s historic sites and then coming back to a hotel where you can literally see Buckingham Palace from your window. It’s the kind of experience that makes London feel both accessible and magical at the same time.
