You know what struck me first about 48 Redcliffe Gardens? It’s tucked away on this gorgeous tree-lined street that feels worlds apart from the tourist madness, but you’re actually just a quick walk from South Kensington’s museum district. I mean, you can literally stroll to the V&A in about ten minutes, which is pretty incredible when you think about it.
The building itself has that classic Victorian charm that makes London so addictive – red brick, white trim, the kind of place where you half expect to bump into someone from a period drama. Inside though, CAPITAL has done something really smart with the interiors. They’ve kept the character (those high ceilings, original moldings) but updated everything else without going overboard. The rooms feel properly spacious for London standards, and honestly, the beds are fantastic – I’m talking sink-right-in comfortable, which matters more than people realize after a day of walking around the city.
What I really appreciate is how they’ve nailed the practical stuff. The showers have actual water pressure (rare enough in older London buildings), there’s decent storage space, and the WiFi doesn’t cut out every five minutes. Plus, being on a residential street means it’s genuinely quiet at night – no buses rumbling past your window at 6 AM like you get on the main roads. The area’s got this lovely village-y feel too, with Earl’s Court just around the corner for groceries and a proper mix of locals and long-term residents rather than just tourists. You’ll find yourself walking past the same dog walkers and morning joggers, which somehow makes the whole experience feel more authentic. The Tube connections are brilliant as well – Earl’s Court station gives you the District and Piccadilly lines, so you can get pretty much anywhere without the usual London transport gymnastics. I’ve stayed in flashier places that cost twice as much but left me feeling like I was just passing through. This place actually makes you feel like you’re living in London for a bit, even if it’s just for a few days.
