Athena Hotel Overview

First Impressions

Walking up to the Athena Hotel in London, you immediately get that classic British townhouse vibe — it’s one of those charming Victorian buildings that Westminster Borough does so well. This three-star spot doesn’t try to be something it’s not, and honestly, that’s refreshing. The entrance feels welcoming without being overly fancy, and you can tell right away that this place focuses on getting the basics absolutely right rather than flashy extras.

Location Magic

Here’s the thing about staying near Paddington — you’re actually in one of London’s sweet spots without the tourist chaos. The Athena sits in this perfect pocket where you can walk to Hyde Park in about five minutes (I mean, literally just around the corner), but you’re also incredibly well-connected to everything else. The Tube connections are brilliant from here, and couples seem to absolutely love this area — they’ve rated the location 9.4, which honestly makes total sense once you experience it yourself. You know what’s great? You can grab coffee and pastries from the local cafés in the morning, then be at Oxford Street or the West End within 20 minutes.

The Room Experience

The rooms at Athena are what I’d call “thoughtfully simple” — they’ve got everything you need without unnecessary clutter. Each room feels clean and well-maintained, with that classic London hotel charm that comes from good bones and careful upkeep. The beds are actually comfortable (not always a given in this price range), and the bathrooms work properly — which sounds basic but you’d be surprised how many places get this wrong. The windows let in decent light, and if you’re lucky enough to get one facing the quieter side, you’ll sleep well despite being in central London.

Breakfast and Practical Bits

The breakfast setup here is solid — they do both continental and buffet options, so whether you want something quick or a proper full spread, you’re covered. I particularly appreciated that they don’t rush you through it; you can actually sit and plan your day properly. Now, here’s something that sets Athena apart — they have private parking right at the hotel, which is honestly like finding gold in this part of London. If you’re driving in (or renting a car for day trips), this alone could save you a fortune and loads of stress.

Why Guests Love It

Recent guests have rated this place 9.3 for location, and after staying here, I completely understand why. It’s that rare combination of being central enough to walk to major attractions, but residential enough that you feel like you’re experiencing actual London rather than just tourist London. The staff genuinely seem to care about making your stay work well — they’re helpful without being pushy, and they know the neighborhood well enough to give you proper local recommendations. For a three-star hotel, the Athena delivers exactly what it promises: a comfortable, well-located base for exploring London without breaking the bank or compromising on the essentials that actually matter.

Savvy travelers reserve a hotel in London before Chelsea Flower Show turns squares into pop-up gardens.

  • Yen from Singapore (8/10)

A 8 to 10 min walk from Paddington Station. Many eating places around the corners. The family room for 4 is very small, hardly any space to walk after we open our luggages but it is clean and the beds are quite comfortable. No toiletries is provided, only basic shower gel so bring your own toothbrushes and stuff. Good that it has a small lift.
