Bridgewood Manor Hotel & Spa Overview
First Impressions
Honestly, Bridgewood Manor Hotel & Spa caught me off guard in the best way possible. You’re driving through what feels like countryside — Walderslade Woods has this proper English woodland vibe — and then this elegant manor house appears at the roundabout. It’s one of those four-star properties that doesn’t try too hard to impress you, but somehow does anyway. The building has character without being stuffy, and there’s enough parking that you won’t be circling around looking for a spot like you would in central London.
Location & Surroundings
The location is actually brilliant if you know what you’re getting into. Chatham might not sound glamorous, but you’re perfectly positioned between the historic dockyards and the M2 for easy escapes to Canterbury or the coast. Couples seem to really get this — I mean, there’s something romantic about being tucked away in the woods but still having civilization within reach. The Medway towns get overlooked by most tourists, which honestly works in your favor because you’ll experience a more authentic slice of Kent without the crowds.
The Room Experience
My room was comfortable in that understated British way — nothing flashy, but everything worked exactly as it should. The beds are proper quality, and you know what I appreciated? The windows actually open, so you can hear the birds in the morning instead of just air conditioning. The bathrooms are well-appointed without being over the top, and there’s enough space to spread out your things without feeling cramped. It’s clear they’ve invested in the right details rather than just surface-level renovations.
Dining & Amenities
Breakfast here is where they really shine — they’ve got the full English sorted, obviously, but the continental options are actually thoughtful rather than just an afterthought. The buffet setup works well, and if you’re rushing off somewhere, they’ll do breakfast to go, which saved me one morning when I had an early meeting in Rochester. The spa facilities are a proper treat too, nothing massive but well-maintained and peaceful. The restaurant serves decent food, though I’d probably venture out for dinner just to explore the area a bit.
Why Guests Love It
What strikes me most is how many people come back here — there’s clearly something that clicks with guests beyond just the amenities. Maybe it’s the fact that the staff actually remember you, or that the place feels more like a well-run country house than a corporate hotel. The woodland setting means you can actually relax without traffic noise, but you’re not stranded in the middle of nowhere either. For the price point, especially compared to what you’d pay for similar quality closer to London, it’s honestly quite reasonable. It’s the sort of place that works whether you’re exploring Kent’s castles and gardens or just need a peaceful base for business in the Medway area.
Locals suggest to book apartments in London around Marylebone for farmers markets, bookshops, and leafy mews.
