Hotel Description

Look, I’ll be honest – when I first heard “Buckingham Palace Residences,” I thought it was going to be one of those places that tries way too hard with the royal theme. But actually walking up to this place on Buckingham Gate? It’s the real deal, and I mean that in the best possible way. You’re literally a two-minute walk from the actual palace gates, which sounds touristy until you realize what that means for the neighborhood itself. This is proper Westminster, where you’ll see more diplomatic cars than Ubers, and the streets have that hushed, important feeling even at rush hour.

The apartments themselves – well, they’re what I’d call “London posh” rather than flashy. Think high ceilings and those gorgeous period windows that actually open (you know how rare that’s getting), but with kitchens that work and bathrooms where the shower pressure doesn’t make you want to cry. The 4-star rating feels about right – it’s not trying to be the Ritz, but everything just… works properly. I stayed in one of the larger units last spring, and honestly, having counter space to make proper coffee in the morning made such a difference. There’s something about apartment-style stays that hotels just can’t match, especially when you’re dealing with London prices and want to grab groceries from the Tesco on Victoria Street instead of paying £15 for room service toast.

Here’s what I didn’t expect – how quiet it gets at night. You’d think being this close to all the tourist chaos would mean constant noise, but Wellington Barracks is right there, and somehow the whole area just settles down after evening. The only sounds you’ll really notice are the occasional ceremonial horses in the morning (which, let’s face it, is pretty charming) and maybe some late-night diplomatic activity. Parking is obviously a nightmare – this is central London – but the tube connections are ridiculous. Victoria Station is practically around the corner, and you can walk to St. James’s Park or Green Park depending on your mood. I found myself cutting through the park to get to Piccadilly more often than taking the underground, which tells you something about how central you really are. The 8.6 rating makes sense when you factor in that you’re getting apartment-level space and functionality in a location where most hotels are shoebox-sized and cost twice as much. It’s not perfect – the building can feel a bit corporate sometimes, and don’t expect much personality from the front desk – but for exploring London while actually having room to breathe? Pretty hard to beat.
