It’s one of those London things where turning one corner changes everything.

The building has that classic London hotel feel without trying too hard, if that makes sense. Four stars that actually feel earned – not the kind where you’re wondering what they’re rating exactly. The lobby’s compact but never feels cramped, even when there’s the usual check-in cluster around 3 PM. Honestly, the staff seem to know their stuff about the neighborhood, which matters more than you’d think when you’re trying to figure out whether to walk to Covent Garden or just hop the Tube from Leicester Square station (walking’s better, by the way – takes maybe eight minutes and you’ll pass some decent pubs).

What really works here is the location without the chaos. You’re close enough to everything that matters – theaters, restaurants, that whole Soho scene – but Irving Street doesn’t get the foot traffic of, say, the Strand or Piccadilly itself. I’ve stayed here during both quieter January weeks and peak summer tourist season, and it handles both well. The rooms face different directions, so some catch more street noise than others, but we’re talking normal London sounds, not construction or late-night revelers. The 8.7 rating feels about right – it’s the kind of place that does the fundamentals really well without any major surprises, good or bad. The breakfast situation is solid, check-in’s smooth, and you’ll actually sleep properly. Sometimes that’s exactly what you want, especially when you’re planning to spend most of your time exploring anyway. Plus, having Chinatown literally around the corner means late-night food options that don’t involve hotel room service prices.
