Chelsea Cloisters sits right on Sloane Avenue, and I mean literally – you can practically roll out of bed and be browsing Harrods’ food hall in ten minutes flat. Not that you’d want to roll anywhere after experiencing that surprisingly decent gym they’ve got tucked away.

The flat itself feels properly lived-in rather than sterile hotel-ish, which honestly makes all the difference when you’re dealing with London’s summer heat (thank god for that air conditioning, by the way). The balcony isn’t huge – we’re talking Chelsea real estate here, not countryside sprawl – but it’s perfectly sized for morning coffee and people-watching along Sloane Avenue. I actually found myself spending way more time out there than expected, just watching the mix of locals heading to work and tourists clutching their Harrods bags. The building’s got that classic red-brick Chelsea character, and while some might call it dated, I’d say it’s got personality that beats those glass-box hotels popping up everywhere.

What really sold me on this spot was how it sits in the neighborhood. You’re genuinely in Chelsea proper – not some “Chelsea-adjacent” situation where you’re actually miles from anything interesting. King’s Road is a five-minute walk south, and if you head north toward Hyde Park, you’ll hit some of those gorgeous garden squares that make this area so sought-after. The Tube situation is honestly fine; Sloane Square station is close enough, though I found myself walking to South Kensington more often because the route’s prettier and it’s barely any further. Plus, there’s something satisfying about strolling past the Natural History Museum on your way somewhere else, you know?

The 8.6 rating makes sense once you’ve stayed here – it’s not trying to be the flashiest place in London, but everything works properly, which is rarer than it should be. The heating responds when you adjust it, the shower pressure doesn’t disappoint, and the kitchen actually has decent-sized appliances (crucial if you’re staying more than a few days and refuse to eat out every meal). I will say the building can get a bit echo-y in the hallways – old buildings, thin walls, that whole thing – but nothing that kept me awake. Honestly, the street noise from Sloane Avenue was more noticeable, though it dies down pretty completely after midnight.

If you’re the type who wants to feel like you’re staying in an actual London neighborhood rather than a tourist bubble, this works brilliantly. There’s a Waitrose nearby for groceries, proper pubs within walking distance, and enough local coffee shops that you won’t end up at the same chain every morning. Plus – and this might sound silly – but there’s something quite nice about having Harrods as your enormous, overpriced corner shop. Even if you’re not dropping serious money there, it’s fun to wander through when the weather’s rubbish.
