Hotel Description
Honestly, when I first walked into citizenM Tower of London, I wasn’t sure what to expect – the building sits right on Trinity Square, which is this sort of tucked-away corner most tourists never notice, but it’s actually perfectly positioned if you know London at all. You’re literally a two-minute walk from the Tower Bridge (the famous one everyone wants photos of), but here’s the thing – you’re far enough from the main tourist chaos that you can actually breathe.
The lobby hits you immediately with this very deliberate “we’re not your grandmother’s hotel” vibe. Think Dutch design meets tech startup, with these massive communal tables where people actually work on laptops and bright, almost aggressive art on the walls. I mean, it works, but it’s definitely a statement. The check-in is all done on tablets, which sounds gimmicky until you realize there’s never a queue and the staff – who clearly know what they’re doing – float around helping rather than standing behind a traditional desk looking bored. The rooms themselves are small, I’ll be honest about that, but they’re small in that efficient Amsterdam way where everything has a purpose. The bed takes up most of the space, but it’s genuinely one of the better hotel beds I’ve slept in – firm but not brutal. What really got me was the rain shower and the fact that the whole bathroom setup, while compact, feels luxurious rather than cramped.
You know what surprised me most? The noise level, or lack thereof. Trinity Square isn’t exactly a quiet residential street, but the windows actually work – I could barely hear the city, which in London is honestly a minor miracle. The breakfast scene upstairs gets properly busy around 8 AM (it’s mostly business travelers and younger tourists who did their research), but if you’re there by 7:30, you can grab one of the window seats and watch the city wake up while drinking genuinely good coffee. The location really is the secret weapon here – you can walk to Borough Market in fifteen minutes if you cut through the back streets, and the Tower Hill tube station is close enough that you’re never more than twenty minutes from anywhere central. Plus, there’s something satisfying about staying somewhere that feels like a local discovery rather than the obvious choice. It’s not cheap, but for what you get – especially that combination of smart design, actual comfort, and being in the heart of historic London without feeling touristy – the 8.6 rating makes complete sense.
