Hotel Description
You know what caught me off guard about Cleveland Residences Paddington? The address says Westminster Borough, but honestly, it feels way more residential and calm than you’d expect from anything with “Westminster” in the name. I mean, you’re tucked away on Cleveland Gardens – this quiet little street that most tourists never stumble across, even though you’re literally a five-minute walk from Paddington Station.
The building itself has that classic London townhouse vibe, but they’ve clearly put some serious money into updating the interiors without going overboard with the modern stuff. The lobby actually smells like proper coffee, not that generic hotel air freshener smell, which immediately made me think they care about details. Check-in was refreshingly straightforward – no upselling, just genuine helpfulness from staff who seem to actually know the neighborhood. My room had these huge windows that looked out onto the garden square (hence the name, I guess), and there’s something really satisfying about watching Londoners walk their dogs in the morning while you’re having coffee in bed. The soundproofing is solid too, which matters because even though this street is quiet, you’re still in central London.
Here’s the thing that really sold me on this place – it’s positioned perfectly for people who want to feel like they’re living in London rather than just visiting. Sussex Gardens is right around the corner with all those Lebanese restaurants (seriously, try Maroush if you haven’t), and you can walk to Hyde Park through streets that feel properly residential. Lancaster Gate tube is closer than Paddington if you’re heading east, though honestly, I found myself walking everywhere because the location just works. The Heathrow Express situation at Paddington is obviously convenient, but what I didn’t expect was how easy it’d be to grab groceries at the Tesco Metro or pop into that little independent bookshop on Praed Street.
The rooms themselves are what I’d call “thoughtfully appointed” – someone clearly considered how people actually use hotel spaces. Decent-sized desk if you need to work, proper lighting for reading, and the bathroom has both good water pressure and somewhere to put your toiletries that isn’t the edge of the sink. Nothing revolutionary, but everything works the way it should. The 8.8 rating makes sense because it’s the kind of place that doesn’t try to be flashy but gets all the fundamentals right. I’d definitely stay here again, especially if I wanted to feel settled rather than constantly on the move.
