Hotel Description

You know what struck me first about the Comfy Nest? The name actually fits – which is honestly pretty rare for London hotels. It’s tucked away on Central Street in this sweet spot where Islington meets the City, and I mean really tucked away. You’ll walk past it twice before you notice the entrance, but that’s sort of the charm.

The location is brilliant if you know London at all. You’re literally a three-minute walk from Angel station (I timed it), which puts you on the Northern Line straight into central London. But here’s the thing locals know – Old Street station is just as close, and that gives you access to both the Northern Line and the Circle/Hammersmith & City lines. So you’ve got options, which in London transport terms is basically gold. The street itself is quiet enough that you won’t get the usual city noise, but step around the corner and you’re in the thick of Islington’s restaurant scene. Chapel Market is right there too – proper old-school London market where you can grab lunch for under a fiver.

The hotel feels like someone converted a Victorian townhouse without trying to erase its personality. The rooms are compact (this is London, after all), but they’ve used the space cleverly. My room had this little reading nook by the window that looked out onto the street – nothing fancy, but it felt intentional, you know? The bathrooms are modern without being sterile, and honestly, the water pressure was better than my flat in Hackney. Check-in was refreshingly straightforward – no overly enthusiastic staff trying to upsell you on breakfast or spa treatments, just friendly efficiency. They actually gave me decent recommendations for dinner that weren’t tourist traps, which tells you the staff knows the area.

I stayed during a Tuesday-Thursday stretch in October, so it was quiet, but I could see how it might get lively on weekends with all the pubs and restaurants nearby. The 7.4 rating feels about right – it’s solidly good without pretending to be something it’s not. You’re paying for the location and the comfort, not for a rooftop bar or fancy lobby. The wifi worked properly (crucial for anyone working remotely), and there’s a little breakfast area that does the job without any fuss.

What I really appreciated was how it felt like staying in a neighborhood rather than a tourist bubble. You’ll see actual Londoners going about their day, not just other travelers trying to figure out the Tube map. The walk to Angel’s high street takes you past proper local spots – the kind of pubs where people read newspapers and the kind of cafes where baristas remember your order. If you’re the type who wants to feel like you’re living in London for a few days rather than just visiting, this place gets it right.
