There’s this little Portuguese café about two streets over that does incredible pastéis de nata – the kind of discovery that makes a trip memorable. The Thames Path runs right along here too, so if you fancy a morning jog or evening walk, you’ve got probably the best riverside route in London right outside your door.

The building itself is modern, which means things actually work (you know what I mean if you’ve stayed in some of London’s “charming” older hotels). Good water pressure, reliable wifi, proper heating – the basics that matter when you’re dealing with unpredictable British weather. I stayed during a particularly rainy week in March, and while other parts of the city were dealing with typical London dampness, this place stayed warm and dry. The windows are decent quality too, so even though you’re in zone 1, street noise isn’t really an issue. Check-in was straightforward, though I’d recommend arriving after 3 PM as advertised – I tried showing up early once and had to kill time at the nearby park, which actually wasn’t terrible since Vauxhall Pleasure Gardens is pretty lovely when the weather cooperates. One small thing – parking around here can be a bit of a nightmare if you’re driving, but honestly, if you’re staying somewhere with these transport links, you really don’t need a car anyway.
