There’s this little coffee shop around the corner on Delancey Street that locals actually use, not just tourists, and the guy behind the counter started recognizing me after day two.

The apartment itself feels like someone actually lives in London, not like a corporate rental. The kitchen’s properly equipped – I’m talking decent knives, real plates, not just the bare minimum you usually get. Shower pressure was surprisingly good (you never know with older London buildings), and the heating worked without making those clanking sounds that keep you up at night. What struck me most was the attention to small stuff: proper blackout curtains, USB outlets by the bed, and they’d stocked basics like coffee and milk, which saved me a late-night Tesco run. The Wi-Fi was solid too – I had a few work calls and never had issues.

I’ll be honest, at first I thought a 9.4 rating seemed optimistic, but after staying there I get it. It’s not flashy or Instagram-perfect, but everything just works the way it should. The check-in was smooth, the host responded quickly when I had a question about the washing machine, and the neighborhood genuinely feels like London rather than tourist London. You’ve got the canal walk right there if you want something peaceful, but you’re also close enough to the action that you won’t spend half your day traveling. For a four-star place, it punches above its weight – I’ve stayed in proper hotels that felt more sterile and cost twice as much.
