Dao by Dorsett West London Overview
First Impressions
Walking up to Dao by Dorsett West London on Shepherd’s Bush Green, you immediately notice how this four-star hotel manages to feel both contemporary and welcoming. The building has this sleek, modern facade that doesn’t try too hard — it’s confident without being flashy. I mean, you’re right on the green itself, which honestly surprised me the first time I visited. Most hotels around here are tucked away on side streets, but this one sits prominently facing the open space, giving it a completely different vibe from your typical London accommodation.
The Neighborhood Advantage
Here’s what I love about this spot — Shepherd’s Bush Green isn’t just some random patch of grass. You’ve got the Empire theatre literally across the way, and Westfield shopping center is maybe a seven-minute walk. The tube station (Central and Hammersmith & City lines) is right there too, so getting into central London actually takes no time at all. What really works though is that you’re not stuck in the tourist chaos of Zone 1, but you’re not stranded in some residential area either. It’s this sweet spot where you can grab dinner at decent local places without paying Covent Garden prices.
The Room Experience
The room design leans heavily into that modern Asian aesthetic — clean lines, warm wood tones, and these floor-to-ceiling windows that make even the standard rooms feel spacious. I particularly appreciate the rainfall shower setup and how they’ve managed to fit everything you need without making the space feel cramped. The beds are properly comfortable (not just hotel-marketing comfortable), and there’s enough storage that you’re not living out of your suitcase for the entire stay. You know what’s nice? The blackout curtains actually work, which sounds basic but you’d be surprised how many places get this wrong.
Dining and Social Spaces
The ground floor restaurant serves this interesting fusion menu that works better than it probably should on paper. It’s not trying to be fine dining, but it’s definitely a step up from standard hotel food. The lobby area doubles as a social space where people actually hang out — there are these comfortable seating areas where you can work on your laptop or just decompress after walking around London all day. The staff here seem to genuinely know what they’re doing, which makes everything run more smoothly than you’d expect.
Why Guests Love It
Couples particularly seem drawn to this place, and I get why — it strikes this balance between being sophisticated enough for a romantic getaway but relaxed enough that you’re not walking on eggshells. The location feedback consistently highlights how easy it is to explore from here, whether you’re heading to Notting Hill, hitting the shops at Westfield, or catching a show. Plus, there’s something to be said for staying somewhere that feels like it belongs in the neighborhood rather than just being dropped there. The green space right outside gives you room to breathe, which is honestly pretty rare in London.

Proximity to the Shepherd's Bush Empire for a great concert and to nice bars for breakfasts and brunches.
