DoubleTree by Hilton London – Docklands Riverside Overview

First Impressions

The DoubleTree by Hilton London – Docklands Riverside sits right on the Thames, and honestly, that’s what caught my attention first — the river views are genuinely impressive. This four-star property feels more polished than I expected for the area, with that signature DoubleTree warm cookie greeting that somehow never gets old. The lobby has floor-to-ceiling windows that frame the water perfectly, and you can already sense this isn’t your typical London hotel experience.

The Rotherhithe Advantage

Here’s what I love about this spot — you’re in Rotherhithe, which means you get proper riverside London without the chaos of central tourist zones. The Canada Water tube station is about a 10-minute walk, putting you two stops from Canary Wharf and surprisingly well-connected to everywhere else. I mean, couples consistently rate this location 8.5 out of 10, and after staying here, I get why. You’ve got the Thames Path literally at your doorstep for morning runs or evening strolls, plus some decent pubs nearby that actually feel like neighborhood spots rather than tourist traps.

The Room Experience

The room I stayed in faced the river — and honestly, waking up to cargo ships and the occasional speedboat beats any city view. The beds here are genuinely comfortable (guests consistently rave about the sleep quality), with crisp white linens and enough pillows to build a fort. What surprised me was the attention to detail — proper blackout curtains, a decent work desk if you need it, and a bathroom that’s actually spacious enough to move around in. The air conditioning works properly too, which you know isn’t always a given in London hotels.

Dining and Practical Bits

The restaurant overlooks the Thames, and while the menu isn’t groundbreaking, the setting makes up for it — especially during sunset when the water turns golden. Breakfast is a solid continental and buffet setup with all the usual suspects plus some nice touches like fresh pastries and proper coffee. There’s parking on-site, which is actually a big deal around here since street parking can be a nightmare. The staff genuinely seem to care about getting things right, not just going through the motions.

Why Guests Love It

What makes this place work is that balance between being close enough to everything but far enough away to feel like you’re discovering a different side of London. You’re not fighting crowds to get to your hotel, but you can still be in central London in 20 minutes. The riverside location means you’ve got built-in entertainment just watching the Thames do its thing, and the hotel itself feels like it belongs here rather than being dropped in randomly. Recent guests rate the location 8.4 out of 10, and after experiencing those river views and the surprisingly peaceful neighborhood vibe, I completely understand the appeal.

Reviews of DoubleTree by Hilton London – Docklands Riverside

  • Lex from Netherlands (8/10)

There was a mix-up in the room photo's, which showed a bath while the room had none. When we came to the front desk, we were upgraded, no questions asked. The ferry across to Canary wharf is free for guests.

Didn’t know about the water ferry and on day 1 could have taken tube to Canary Wharf and then doubletree ferry but weren’t told about it until we reached the hotel. We ended up getting uber from Canada wharf which was actually unnecessary!
Excellent hotel and for outside London visitors this would help with travel and getting to you!

The breakfast exceeded my expectations so many options for food and the quality was top tier I would come back just for the breakfast even!!! The staff in general were outstanding!!! I was greeted by the receptionist Jonas and he was very professional and welcoming he would always say good morning good afternoon and good evening a great brand ambassador for front of house Hilton Hotel the experience felt more luxurious with the consistent politeness- it was also my birthday so I was given two complimentary drinks due to the warm welcoming I extended my stay for an extra day and if I didn’t have to go back to work I would have stayed longer worth every penny! The cleaners were friendly and professional too they cleaned my room while I was out for an hour and when I returned it was sparkly clean 🙂 I got in the boat service to canary wharf which I wasn’t expecting but it was a lovely touch to have as an amenity I will definitely return 🙂
