DoubleTree By Hilton London Excel Overview
First Impressions
Walking into DoubleTree By Hilton London Excel, you’re immediately struck by how much thought went into placing this four-star hotel right where business travelers and event-goers actually need to be. I mean, you’re literally steps away from the ExCeL exhibition center — which honestly makes all the difference when you’re hauling conference materials or trying to catch an early morning presentation. The lobby feels polished without being stuffy, and yes, they still do that signature warm cookie thing at check-in (it’s surprisingly comforting after a long travel day).
Location & Getting Around
Here’s what I love about the Royal Victoria Dock area — it’s this interesting mix of modern development and waterfront views that most visitors to London never see. You’re right on the DLR line, which connects you to Canary Wharf in about 10 minutes and gets you into central London surprisingly quickly. The couples who stay here really seem to appreciate the quieter vibe compared to staying in Zone 1, plus there’s something quite nice about those dock views, especially in the evening when the lights reflect off the water.
The Room Experience
The room I stayed in was exactly what you’d expect from Hilton’s DoubleTree brand — clean lines, comfortable bed, and everything actually works properly. The windows are large enough that you get decent natural light, and if you’re lucky enough to snag a water-facing room, the views are genuinely pleasant. What I appreciated most was the workspace setup — clearly designed with business travelers in mind, with plenty of outlets and a desk that’s actually usable for more than just setting down your phone.
Dining & Practical Matters
Breakfast here is honestly better than it needs to be — they’ve got the full English sorted, but also continental options and proper vegetarian choices that don’t feel like an afterthought. The buffet setup moves efficiently, which matters when you’re trying to get to ExCeL early. Parking is available on-site, and while it’s not cheap (this is London, after all), it’s incredibly convenient if you’re driving in for an event. The restaurant serves decent evening meals, though you’ve got other options within walking distance if you want to explore a bit.
Why Guests Love It
You know what really stands out? The repeat guest factor — people genuinely come back here, which tells you something about the consistency of the experience. It’s not trying to be the flashiest hotel in London, but it delivers exactly what it promises. The staff seem to understand that most guests are here for ExCeL or business in Canary Wharf, so they’re efficient and helpful without being overly chatty. For couples especially, there’s something refreshing about staying somewhere that feels properly London but isn’t in the middle of the tourist chaos — you get a different perspective on the city from this side of the Thames.

Kennth from United Kingdom (9/10)
Friendly staff who got in touch to ask how things were after booking in. Excellent Room, very clean, snacks on arrival and also available throughout the day.
Breakfast was great. Price for London is extremely fair. Location is also very good and worth the travel out from the city centre because its a little more relaxed.
