Forest House Hotel Overview

First Impressions

Walking up to Forest House Hotel on Green Lanes, you immediately get the sense this isn’t your typical London chain hotel. It’s tucked into a Victorian terrace that feels more like someone’s well-kept family home than a commercial property. The three-star rating might seem modest, but honestly, that works in its favor — there’s no pretense here, just solid hospitality in one of North London’s more genuine neighborhoods.

Location & Neighborhood

Palmers Green isn’t exactly central London, but that’s actually part of its charm. You’re in a proper residential area where locals go about their daily business, not a tourist bubble. The high street has that authentic North London mix — Turkish bakeries next to old-school pubs, charity shops alongside family-run restaurants. Couples seem to really appreciate this quieter side of the city (they’ve rated the location 8.3), and I can see why — it feels like you’re experiencing how Londoners actually live rather than just visiting the usual suspects.

The Room Experience

My room was straightforward but comfortable, with that slightly old-fashioned feel you get in converted Victorian houses. The heating actually worked properly (not always a given in London), and the bed was genuinely comfortable — none of that rock-hard mattress nonsense some budget places try to pass off. What struck me most was how quiet everything was, especially considering you’re still technically in London. The double glazing does its job, and the residential street means no late-night foot traffic.

Practical Matters

Here’s where Forest House Hotel really wins points — they’ve got parking on-site, which is basically gold dust in London. I mean, you know how stressful it can be driving around North London looking for a spot that won’t cost you £20 a day? Having your own space sorted takes a huge weight off your shoulders. The staff are genuinely helpful too, not just going through the motions. They’ll actually give you proper directions to places rather than just pointing vaguely down the road. The apartment-style setup with kitchen facilities in select rooms adds real value for longer stays.

Why Guests Love It

The 8.1 rating makes perfect sense once you’ve stayed here — it’s one of those places that just gets the basics absolutely right. You’re not paying for marble lobbies or fancy spas, but you are getting clean, comfortable accommodation with people who actually care about your stay. The location works brilliantly if you want to explore North London properly, or if you’re visiting family in the area. Plus, getting into central London is straightforward enough when you need to tick off the tourist boxes. It’s the kind of place you’d recommend to friends without any caveats — just honest, reliable hospitality in a part of London that feels refreshingly real.

The welcome from the man at reception (sorry I didn't get your name) was wonderful, very friendly and welcoming, nothing was too much trouble, a lovely size room with high ceilings and comfy beds. Large bathroom. Superb location near shops, bars and restaurants and not far from Wood Green tube station. We even walked to Alexandra Palace and back. Very good value for money, highly recommend.
