Hartsfield Manor Overview
First Impressions
You know what strikes you first about Hartsfield Manor? It’s not trying too hard to impress — and that’s exactly what makes it so charming. This four-star Georgian manor sits quietly on Sandy Lane in Dorking, looking like it’s been welcoming guests for centuries (which it probably has). The moment you pull up, there’s this sense that you’ve stumbled onto something special — not flashy or over-the-top, just genuinely welcoming in that distinctly English way.
Location & Setting
Honestly, the location is pretty much perfect if you’re looking to explore the Surrey Hills without dealing with London chaos. Dorking itself is one of those market towns that feels authentic — you’ve got proper pubs, independent shops, and locals who actually live here year-round. The manor sits in a sweet spot where you can walk into town for dinner, but you’re also perfectly positioned for hiking Box Hill or exploring the North Downs. Couples seem to absolutely love it here, and I can see why — there’s something romantic about the whole setup that doesn’t feel forced or manufactured.
The Room Experience
The rooms have that classic English country house feel, but they’ve clearly been updated with modern comforts. I mean, you’re not sacrificing anything for the period charm — the beds are properly comfortable, and the bathrooms work exactly as they should. What I really appreciate is how each room feels individual rather than cookie-cutter. Some have views over the gardens, others look toward the Surrey Hills, and they’ve managed to maintain character without making you feel like you’re sleeping in a museum.
Breakfast & Dining
The breakfast situation here is actually impressive — they do the full English properly (none of that sad hotel buffet nonsense), but they’ve also got continental options and vegetarian choices that show they’re thinking about what people actually want to eat. The restaurant uses local ingredients when possible, which you can taste in everything from the eggs to the seasonal vegetables. It’s the kind of place where you might find yourself lingering over coffee longer than planned, especially if you’ve snagged a table with garden views.
Why Guests Love It
There’s clearly something working here — the number of repeat guests is notably higher than most places, which tells you everything you need to know about the experience. The staff seem to genuinely care about getting things right, and there’s free parking (which, let’s be honest, is becoming increasingly rare and valuable). What really sets Hartsfield Manor apart is how it balances that traditional English hospitality with modern expectations. You’re not roughing it for the sake of authenticity, but you’re also not staying in some soulless chain hotel. It’s that sweet spot where everything just works — the kind of place you’d happily recommend to friends without any caveats or warnings.

Really enjoyable stay. An excellent property and although I was staying for work, it was very comfortable with a fantastic room and great nights sleep. The WiFi worked well and was great throughout my stay. The best part was the restaurant staff who could do no more for me, kept me entertained and despite being super busy with a big event on were attentive and excellent throughout.

If you're looking for a quite place to relax that's also within 20 mins of Gatwick and has great food, this is definitely the right place. We had a room over looking the garden with a terrace and it was lovely waking up to the view. We had dinner at the hotel and we really enjoy the excellent food. Breakfast was also nice.
