Henrys Townhouse Marylebone

Honestly, I walked past Henrys Townhouse about three times before I realized this was actually my hotel – and that’s exactly what makes it so brilliant. Tucked into Upper Berkeley Street (which runs parallel to Oxford Street but feels worlds away from the chaos), this place looks like someone’s very posh Georgian home rather than a typical London hotel. I mean, there’s no massive sign or revolving door, just an elegant black facade that blends seamlessly with the neighborhood’s historic townhouses. The Marylebone location is pretty much perfect if you ask me – you’re literally a two-minute walk from Marble Arch tube station, but the street itself is surprisingly quiet, especially considering you could throw a stone and hit Selfridges.

What really got me was how they’ve managed to feel both luxurious and genuinely homey at the same time. The interiors have this warm, lived-in elegance – think rich fabrics and antique furniture that actually looks comfortable rather than museum-piece formal. My room (well, more like a suite really) had these gorgeous high ceilings and original period details, but also proper blackout curtains and a bathroom with one of those rainfall showers that actually works. You know what I loved? The little things – like how the staff remembered my name after one night, or the way they leave proper English biscuits in your room instead of generic hotel cookies. The building’s old enough that you’ll hear the occasional creak of floorboards upstairs, but it adds character rather than being annoying, and honestly the street’s so quiet I slept better here than at some countryside hotels.

The whole experience feels more like staying at a friend’s incredibly well-appointed townhouse than a commercial hotel – which makes sense given the 9.7 rating, though I’ll admit I was skeptical when I saw that number. But after three nights there, I get it completely. The location alone is worth it (Hyde Park’s right there for morning runs, plus you can walk to everything from Regent’s Park to the West End), but it’s really the attention to detail that sets it apart. Fair warning though – this isn’t the kind of place where you’ll find a massive lobby to lounge around in or a flashy rooftop bar. If you’re looking for Instagram-worthy common spaces, you might want something more obviously grand. But if you want to feel like a well-heeled Londoner coming home after a day exploring the city, with staff who genuinely seem to care about your stay rather than just going through the motions, then Henrys Townhouse is pretty much exactly what you’re after. Just remember to look for the subtle entrance – it’s worth the brief moment of “am I in the right place?”
