The lobby has this warm, lived-in elegance – think rich wood tones and comfortable seating where you’d actually want to wait for someone. The rooms are well, they’re Hilton rooms, but done thoughtfully. Mine had a proper desk (rare in London hotels), decent lighting for reading, and – this matters more than it should – curtains that actually blocked out light. The bathroom was spacious by London standards, with one of those rainfall showers that works properly. I stayed on the fifth floor and barely heard any street noise, which honestly shocked me given we’re talking about central London here. Check-in was refreshingly smooth, even during what seemed like a busy conference week.

Now, the 7.1 rating makes sense when you dig into the details. It’s not trying to be the fanciest hotel in London – the décor is pleasant but not Instagram-worthy, and the fitness center is adequate rather than impressive. But here’s the thing: it does everything well without any major fumbles. The staff genuinely seemed to know the neighborhood (got great restaurant recommendations that weren’t just the obvious choices), the WiFi actually worked throughout the building, and breakfast, while pricey, was properly good rather than the usual hotel buffet sadness.
