Hotel Description
You know what struck me first about the Hilton London Hyde Park? The way it sits right there on Bayswater Road – I mean, you literally step out the front door and Hyde Park is across the street. Not “a short walk to the park” like so many hotels claim, but actually right there. When I opened my curtains in the morning, there were people already jogging past the Speakers’ Corner entrance, and honestly, it made me want to get out there too (though I’ll admit I just grabbed coffee instead).
The thing about this particular Hilton is that it feels properly London in a way that some of the chain hotels don’t quite manage. Maybe it’s because the building has that classic cream-colored facade that fits right in with the Bayswater neighborhood, or maybe it’s just that the staff actually seem to know the area. When I asked about getting to Portobello Market, the concierge didn’t just point me toward a taxi – he told me about cutting through the quieter streets behind Queensway station, which probably saved me twenty minutes of tourist-clogged sidewalks. The lobby’s got this sort of understated elegance going on, not flashy but comfortable, with those deep chairs where you could actually sit and plan your day without feeling like you’re in someone’s way.
I’ll be straight with you – at 7.2 stars, this isn’t going to blow your mind, but it does the job really well. The rooms are what you’d expect from a four-star Hilton, clean and comfortable with decent space (which honestly matters in London where some hotels make you feel like you’re sleeping in a closet). The shower pressure was solid, the air conditioning worked without sounding like a jet engine, and the WiFi didn’t make me want to throw my laptop out the window. What I really appreciated was how quiet it stayed at night, even though you’re on a fairly busy road – whatever soundproofing they’ve got works. The restaurant downstairs is perfectly fine for breakfast, though I’d skip dinner there and walk five minutes to one of the Lebanese places on Edgware Road instead. Parking’s expensive if you’re driving, but then again, why would you drive in this part of London when you’ve got Lancaster Gate tube station literally around the corner? You can be in Oxford Circus in ten minutes, or wander into Notting Hill when you want something a bit more relaxed. It’s that sweet spot where you feel like you’re staying somewhere central without being right in the middle of the tourist chaos.
