Kimpton – Fitzroy London, an IHG Hotel Overview
First Impressions
Walking up to Kimpton – Fitzroy London, an IHG Hotel on Russell Square, you immediately get that “this is proper London” feeling. The Georgian townhouse facade fits perfectly into Bloomsbury’s literary landscape — I mean, you’re literally surrounded by the same streets where Virginia Woolf and Charles Dickens wandered. This five-star property manages to feel both grand and approachable, which honestly isn’t easy to pull off in a city where hotels can sometimes feel stuffy or trying too hard.
The Bloomsbury Advantage
The location here is genuinely brilliant, and I get why couples rate it so highly — there’s something romantic about being in the heart of intellectual London. You’re a two-minute walk from the British Museum (perfect for those rainy afternoons), and Russell Square tube station is right there when you want to explore further. What I really appreciate is how you can stroll to Covent Garden or Oxford Street easily, but when you come back to the square in the evening, it feels like a peaceful retreat from all that chaos.
The Room Experience
The rooms strike that sweet spot between boutique charm and modern comfort. Each room I’ve seen has this thoughtful design that nods to the building’s history without feeling like you’re sleeping in a museum. The beds are seriously comfortable — you know those mornings when you actually don’t want to get up? Yeah, that’s what we’re talking about here. The bathrooms are well-appointed, and there’s enough space to actually unpack properly, which matters more than you’d think after a long flight.
Breakfast and Dining
The breakfast setup is where this place really shows its understanding of what travelers actually want. They do a proper full English that doesn’t feel like it came from a heat lamp, plus there’s a buffet spread that covers pretty much every preference you might have. The restaurant has this relaxed atmosphere where you can linger over coffee without feeling rushed — something that’s become rare in busy London hotels. I’ve noticed they seem to get the timing right, so you’re not waiting ages for your food even during peak hours.
Why Guests Love It
There’s a reason people keep coming back here — and honestly, the repeat guest rate speaks for itself. The staff genuinely seem to care about making your stay work, not just going through the motions. The combination of that prime Bloomsbury location, the thoughtful service, and rooms that actually feel like a proper retreat makes it one of those places you find yourself recommending without hesitation. It’s the kind of hotel that gets London right — sophisticated without being pretentious, comfortable without being boring, and perfectly positioned to make the most of what this incredible city offers.
The luxury concierge service in London secures Royal Opera boxes, countryside heli-tastings, and after-hours museum soirees.

It was our 4th stay at the Kimpton and, as usual, it was excellent. The staff are friendly, efficient and very helpful. The location of the hotel is perfect for museums and shopping. Breakfast is superb and we were also left a delicious little cake to celebrate our anniversary.

Excellent location at Russell Square. Comfortable Bed and Good Shower. Hotel is around the corner from the tube station as well. Centrally located, there is also the number 14 bus nearby which goes via the British Museum and a nice park across the road. Breakfast was included and was good, also catered for alternative milk ie Oat milk. They also had free drinks for hotel guests from 5-6pm in the night when I was there. Staff were friendly and nice. Plush hotel and lovely interiors. Cafes, Pret a Manger across the road along with an Tesco express. Further down that street there is some food outlets and a larger Waitrose as well. There is a pub just behind the hotel as well.
