Hotel Description

You know what caught me off guard about the Leonardo Royal London St Paul’s? Walking up to it on Godliman Street, I honestly expected another generic business hotel – but this place actually has some character. The building itself has this solid, reassuring presence that fits perfectly with the City’s mix of old and new architecture, and when you step inside, there’s this unexpected warmth to the lobby that immediately tells you someone put thought into the design.

The location is honestly brilliant if you’re the type who likes to walk everywhere. I mean, St Paul’s Cathedral is literally right there – like, you can see it from some of the upper floor windows – and you’re maybe a five-minute stroll to the Millennium Bridge. What I really appreciated though was how quiet Godliman Street stays, especially in the evenings when all the City workers have gone home. During the day it’s bustling with that proper London energy, but at night you get this almost village-like calm that’s rare in central London. The rooms themselves are well thought out – not huge by any means, but cleverly designed so you don’t feel cramped. The beds are actually comfortable (I’m picky about this), and the bathrooms have decent water pressure, which honestly shouldn’t be noteworthy but somehow always is in London hotels.

Here’s what makes this place work for me though – the staff genuinely seem to know the neighborhood. When I asked about getting to Borough Market, the front desk guy didn’t just point me toward the Tube; he told me about the walking route along the Thames that takes maybe twenty minutes and passes some brilliant little spots most tourists miss. The breakfast room gets properly busy around 8 AM when all the business travelers are rushing off to meetings, but if you can manage a slightly earlier or later start, it’s quite pleasant with big windows overlooking the street. Parking is typically London expensive if you’re driving, but honestly, you won’t need a car from here – everything’s walkable or a quick Tube ride away. The City station is close enough, and you’ve got Blackfriars just across the river if you need different line connections. I stayed during a busy conference week in autumn, and while the lobby was definitely more hectic than usual, the actual hotel floors stayed peaceful. That 8.6 rating feels about right to me – it’s not trying to be the flashiest place in London, but it delivers on the things that actually matter when you’re exploring the city.
