Nutfield Priory Hotel & Spa Overview

First Impressions

The Nutfield Priory Hotel & Spa hits you with this incredible Gothic Revival architecture that honestly feels like stepping into a period drama. I mean, this isn’t your typical chain hotel — it’s a converted Victorian priory that sits on these sprawling grounds in Redhill, and the building itself is absolutely stunning. You know what struck me most? The way they’ve managed to keep all that historical character while making it feel like a proper four-star hotel. The moment you walk through those heavy wooden doors, there’s this sense of grandeur that’s impressive without being intimidating.

Location and Surroundings

What I love about this place is how it sits in Nutfield — you’re technically close to London (about 45 minutes by train), but it feels completely removed from all that chaos. The hotel is perched on this hill with views across the Surrey countryside, and honestly, couples seem to get it because they rate the location a solid 9.0. There’s free parking right on site, which is actually a big deal when you’re dealing with English country hotels. The grounds are perfect for wandering around, and you’re close enough to places like Gatwick if you need airport access, but far enough away that you won’t hear any planes.

The Room Experience

The rooms here are where that historical charm really shines through — think period features mixed with modern comfort. My room had these beautiful high ceilings and original windows that looked out over the gardens, but the bathroom was completely updated with a proper shower. The beds are comfortable (they’ve clearly invested in good mattresses), and there’s enough space to actually unpack your suitcase, which isn’t always a given in converted buildings like this. Some rooms have four-poster beds, and while it might sound a bit over-the-top, it actually works really well with the whole priory atmosphere.

Dining and Spa

The breakfast situation is actually quite impressive — they do everything from full English to continental, plus they’ve got vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free options covered. The restaurant serves decent food, though I’d say it’s more about the setting than groundbreaking cuisine. But honestly, eating dinner in what used to be a priory dining hall is pretty special. The spa is where this place really earns its keep — it’s not huge, but the treatments are solid and the facilities feel properly relaxing rather than just tacked on for the sake of having a spa.

Why Guests Love It

Look, this hotel works because it delivers on something you can’t get everywhere — genuine character in a building that’s actually historically significant, but with modern comfort levels. The 8.4 rating makes sense because while it’s not perfect (service can be a bit slow sometimes), it offers something unique. It’s the kind of place where you can have a proper English country experience without feeling like you’re roughing it, and the fact that it’s still accessible to London makes it work for both romantic getaways and business trips where you want something a bit special.

To book a hotel in London during Wimbledon, visitors plan ahead to balance lawn-side matches with Thames sunset walks.

    Breakfast and the spa.

  • Olivia from United Kingdom (9/10)

We came for a function which was done beautifully. In particular the staff were pleasant and attentive at all times. They went the extra mile to make sure everything was perfect.
The breakfast was good; lots of choice and lovely staff again.
We did not use the spa facilities.

  • Caroline from United Kingdom (8/10)

Everything was really fine (staff, reception rooms, location) except the fact that we were given a room which had been painted the week before and the residual odour really triggered my asthma. It was too late when we returned to the room in the evening for me to request a room change so perhaps my own fault. Unfortunately it led to a really uncomfortable night. To be fair Reception told me that they would have changed my room had they known.
