Hotel Description
Honestly, I wasn’t sure what to expect from Oxford Street Fitzrovia Apartments when I first booked it – the name makes it sound like it might be right in the tourist chaos, but it’s actually tucked away in this quieter pocket of Fitzrovia that feels more residential. You know that stretch where Camden sort of blends into the arty bit near Charlotte Street? That’s where you’ll find it, and I mean, you’re still close enough to hear the distant hum of Oxford Street, but you’re not dealing with the constant stream of shoppers and those awful costume character guys.
The building itself has that classic London apartment feel – not trying to be a fancy hotel lobby, which I actually prefer. Check-in was refreshingly straightforward, no hovering around a marble counter for twenty minutes. What really sold me on the place was stepping into the apartment and realizing it felt like somewhere you could actually live for a week, not just crash. The kitchen’s properly equipped (I’m talking real knives, not those useless butter knife things most places give you), and there’s enough space to spread out your stuff without playing Tetris with your suitcase. The beds are solid too – I’m pretty picky about mattresses, and I slept well, which says something after wandering around London all day.
Location-wise, this is where it gets good. You’re maybe a two-minute walk from Goodge Street station, which honestly makes getting around so much easier than staying closer to the Oxford Circus madness. There’s this brilliant little café called Kaffeine just around the corner that does proper coffee – not the chain stuff – and if you walk five minutes toward Charlotte Street, you hit all these independent restaurants that aren’t completely overrun with tourists. I found myself popping back during the day because it felt like having a proper London base, you know? The area gets pretty quiet after 9 PM, which might be boring if you want nightlife right outside your door, but I loved being able to actually sleep without earplugs. Weekend mornings are particularly nice – you get that village-y feel even though you’re smack in Zone 1. The 8.3 rating seems about right to me; it’s not going to blow your mind with luxury touches, but everything works well, it’s clean, and the value is solid for what you get in this part of London. If you want to feel less like a tourist and more like you’re actually staying somewhere real, this hits the mark.
