You know what struck me first about SACO Holborn? It’s tucked into this gorgeous Georgian terrace on Lamb’s Conduit Street that feels worlds away from the tourist chaos, even though you’re literally a few minutes’ walk from Russell Square. I mean, this street is one of those hidden London gems – proper independent shops, the kind of places where locals actually buy their coffee and browse for books on Sunday mornings.

The aparthotel itself sits beautifully in those classic brick buildings (numbers 72-84, so it takes up a decent chunk of the street), and honestly, walking up to it feels like you’re staying in someone’s rather posh London townhouse rather than a standard hotel. The interiors are what I’d call “grown-up modern” – think clean lines and quality furnishings without all that sterile minimalism that makes you afraid to touch anything. The apartments themselves are properly spacious, which is saying something in London, and they’ve got full kitchens that actually work. I’m talking real ovens, decent-sized fridges, the works – not those sad little kitchenettes with a kettle and some optimism.

What really sets this place apart though is the neighborhood knowledge you’ll pick up just by staying here. Lamb’s Conduit Street has this brilliant independent bookshop, Persephone Books, that specializes in forgotten classics by women writers – the kind of place you pop into for five minutes and emerge an hour later with three novels you’ve never heard of. There’s also this fantastic traditional pub, The Lamb, that’s been there since the 1720s and still has those Victorian “snob screens” that let you drink in private (very useful when you’re jet-lagged and look it). The street connects beautifully to Brunswick Square and Russell Square, so you’re walking distance from the British Museum without dealing with the madness of staying right on top of it. Plus, you’ve got multiple tube lines within easy reach – honestly, the transport links are brilliant without the area feeling overrun.

The building can get a bit echo-y in the mornings when people are heading out – those Georgian houses weren’t exactly built with sound insulation in mind – but it’s more charming than annoying. Check-in was refreshingly straightforward, and the staff actually seem to know the area well enough to give you proper recommendations rather than just pointing you toward the nearest chain restaurant. I’d say it hits that sweet spot of feeling residential and local while still having all the services you want when you’re traveling. The 8.2 rating feels about right – it’s not trying to be flashy or over-the-top, just genuinely comfortable and well-located in a part of London that feels authentically itself.
