Stifford Hall Hotel Thurrock Overview
First Impressions
When I first pulled up to Stifford Hall Hotel Thurrock, I’ll be honest — the name had me expecting something a bit grander. But you know what? This three-star property on High Road surprised me in the best way. It’s got that classic English hotel charm without trying too hard, and there’s something refreshingly unpretentious about the whole place. The parking situation is actually brilliant — private spots right at the hotel, which anyone who’s driven around Grays will tell you is worth its weight in gold.
Location That Actually Works
Here’s the thing about North Stifford — it’s one of those spots that locals know about but tourists often miss. You’re close enough to London that the commute isn’t painful (the M25 is right there), but far enough out that you’re not paying city prices for everything. I mean, couples seem to get this — they’ve rated the location 8.8, and honestly, I can see why. There’s something quite peaceful about the area, especially if you’re used to the chaos of central London. Plus, you’ve got easy access to both Essex countryside and the Thames, which gives you options depending on your mood.
The Room Experience
The room I stayed in was exactly what you’d expect from a well-run three-star — clean, comfortable, and thoughtfully arranged. Nothing fancy, but everything worked properly, which is more than I can say for some places I’ve been. The beds are actually quite good (I’m picky about mattresses), and the heating responds quickly, which matters more than you’d think during those damp English evenings. What struck me most was how quiet it was — even with the main road nearby, the soundproofing does its job well.
Breakfast Worth Mentioning
Now, breakfast is where this place really shows its character. They’ve got the full spread — continental if you’re in a hurry, proper full English if you want the works, and they actually cater to dietary restrictions without making a big fuss about it. Vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free — it’s all there, and done properly too. The buffet setup works well, though honestly, I preferred ordering off the menu when I had time. There’s also a breakfast-to-go option, which saved me one morning when I had an early meeting in London.
Why Guests Keep Coming Back
There’s definitely something to be said for a place that has more repeat guests than most other properties — and after staying here, I get it. It’s not trying to be the fanciest hotel in Essex, but it delivers consistently on the basics that actually matter. The staff remember your preferences if you’re there for more than a night, the restaurant serves decent food without pretension, and the whole operation just runs smoothly. For the price point and location, it hits that sweet spot where you feel like you’re getting proper value rather than paying for unnecessary frills you won’t use anyway.
London hotels keep guests close to gallery quarters, Michelin markets, and tube connections.

Reviews of Stifford Hall Hotel Thurrock
Susan from Netherlands (8/10)
Daily room service was excellent. Very comfortable beds, tea/coffee facilities were always well provided. So for that we say Thank You to Gosia, who we often saw in the corridor going about her work with a welcoming smile and greeting. Thanks also goes to Monica on Reception, always helpful with any enquiry we had and witty young Mason who served us perfectly in the bar and for our food orders, especially attentive on the evening we had my mum join us for dinner, super service.
Hats off to the chef – food menu had good choices and everything we ordered was delicious.Anthony from United Kingdom (7/10)

Great welcome. As we were meeting family and work meant an early start we didn’t have a chance to have dinner or breakfast there – next time we will be more supportive rather than just taking the room.
