The Clerk & Well Pub and Rooms Overview
First Impressions
Walking into The Clerk & Well Pub and Rooms, you immediately get that this isn’t your typical hotel experience — and honestly, that’s exactly what makes it special. This four-star gem sits right on Clerkenwell Road, and I mean right in the thick of things in London. The moment you step through the door, you’re greeted by the warm buzz of a proper British pub downstairs, but don’t worry — the room situation upstairs is surprisingly sophisticated.
Location That Actually Matters
You know what’s brilliant about this spot? You’re literally in Clerkenwell, which means you can walk to King’s Cross in about ten minutes, and you’re close enough to Camden Market that you’ll probably end up there without even planning it. The location score of 9.1 isn’t just numbers on a website — couples genuinely love it here because there’s something romantic about being tucked away in this historic neighborhood while still having the entire city at your fingertips. I’ve noticed that the area gets quieter in the evenings (despite the pub below), which is pretty rare for central London.
The Rooms
Here’s where things get interesting — the rooms are nothing like what you’d expect from a pub hotel. They’re actually quite modern and well-designed, with those famously comfortable beds that guests keep raving about. I mean, when people specifically mention the beds in reviews, you know they’re onto something good. The rooms manage to feel cozy without being cramped, and there’s enough space to actually unpack your suitcase properly. The soundproofing is surprisingly effective too, so you get the atmosphere of staying above a traditional pub without the noise keeping you awake.
The Pub Experience
The downstairs restaurant and pub area is where this place really shows its personality. It’s not trying to be fancy — it’s just a well-run British pub that happens to serve decent food and proper pints. The staff actually know what they’re doing, which sounds basic but you’d be surprised how often that’s not the case. Having breakfast downstairs feels natural rather than forced, and in the evenings, you can pop down for a drink without having to venture out into London’s unpredictable weather.
Why Guests Love It
What really sets this place apart is how it balances being authentically London with being genuinely comfortable for travelers. You’re not staying in some sanitized hotel chain — you’re getting a real taste of local pub culture while having a proper place to sleep. The 8.7 rating makes sense when you experience it firsthand, because it delivers on the things that actually matter: location, comfort, and character. Plus, there’s something satisfying about telling people you stayed at a pub in Clerkenwell rather than just “a hotel near King’s Cross.” It’s the kind of place that makes your London trip feel more authentic without sacrificing the basics you need for a good night’s rest.
Apartments in London suit remote teams with Georgian bay windows, fast fibre, and shared studios overlooking courtyards.

Proximity to subway (especially the hop-on hop-off bus), amenities e.g. food, sports bar and Catholic Church. Big plus were the overall cleanliness of the rooms, customer service of the staff and breakfast. Great UK B&B experience. Definitely a good stopping point for London
