Hotel Description

So, The LaLit London – honestly, when I first walked up to this place on Tooley Street, I wasn’t sure what to expect. I mean, it’s tucked into this sort of industrial-meets-trendy stretch of Southwark that’s still finding its identity, you know? But then you step inside and it hits you – this is something completely different from your typical London hotel.

The whole place has this gorgeous Indian-inspired design that somehow doesn’t feel forced or theme-park-ish. There’s actual thought behind it, like the way they’ve woven traditional patterns into modern furnishings without making it feel like you’re dining at your local curry house. The lobby has these rich textures and warm colors that make you want to linger, which is good because check-in can take a minute (they’re thorough, but friendly about it). What really got me was walking into my room – the bed linens were this incredible quality, and there’s something about the way they’ve done the lighting that makes everything feel more luxurious than the price point suggests. The bathrooms are proper nice too, with those deep tubs that actually fit a normal-sized human being.

Location-wise, you’re actually in a sweet spot that most tourists miss. Yeah, you’re not in Covent Garden or Mayfair, but honestly? That’s part of the charm. You can walk to Borough Market in about eight minutes – and I’m talking a proper stroll, not a power walk. The Shard’s right there if you want the touristy London Eye views without the crowds, and getting to London Bridge station is incredibly easy. I found myself walking across the Thames to the City most mornings, which is a lovely way to start the day when the weather cooperates. The neighborhood gets pretty quiet after business hours, which means you’ll actually sleep well – something that’s harder to find in central London than you’d think. There’s a decent gastropub called The George about two blocks away if you want something casual, and the hotel’s own restaurant is… well, it’s quite good actually, though I’d recommend making a reservation even if you’re staying there. The service throughout the place has this relaxed professionalism that feels authentically London – helpful without being pushy, knowledgeable without being condescending. I noticed they remember your name after the first day, which is a nice touch. My only real gripe is that the lifts can be slow during busy periods, but that’s pretty standard for a converted building in this part of town.
