The Portobello Hotel Overview
First Impressions
Walking up to The Portobello Hotel on Stanley Gardens, you immediately get that “this is different” feeling. It’s tucked into a gorgeous Victorian terrace in Notting Hill, and honestly, from the outside it looks more like someone’s incredibly stylish townhouse than a hotel. The entrance is understated — no flashy signs or doormen — which I actually love because it feels like you’re being let in on a secret.
Location & Neighborhood
The location is absolutely brilliant, and I mean that. You’re right in the heart of Notting Hill, just a few minutes’ walk from Portobello Road Market (which gets crazy busy on Saturdays, fair warning). London‘s Hyde Park is literally across the street, so you can pop over for morning runs or evening strolls whenever you want. The Tube connections are solid too — Notting Hill Gate station is close by, so getting anywhere in the city is straightforward. What couples seem to love most is how romantic this little pocket of London feels, especially in the evenings when the Victorian streetlights come on.
The Room Experience
Each room here has its own personality — and I’m not just saying that. They’re all individually designed with antique furniture, rich fabrics, and quirky touches that make you feel like you’re staying in an eccentric artist’s home rather than a standard hotel. The beds are genuinely comfortable (guests rave about the sleep quality), and the bathrooms often feature vintage fixtures that somehow manage to be both charming and functional. Some rooms are quite compact, which is typical for central London, but the character more than makes up for any space limitations.
Breakfast & Dining
The breakfast setup is surprisingly comprehensive for a boutique property. They’ve got everything covered — full English breakfast, continental options, plus vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free choices. It’s served in their cozy dining room, which has this warm, lived-in feel that makes morning coffee actually enjoyable rather than rushed. The staff knows their stuff too, so if you need recommendations for dinner spots in the neighborhood, they’ll point you toward some real gems that aren’t just tourist traps.
Why Guests Love It
This four-star boutique hotel works because it doesn’t try to be everything to everyone. Instead, it does the intimate, characterful London experience really well. You’re staying somewhere with genuine personality in one of the city’s most desirable neighborhoods, with Hyde Park as your backyard and Portobello Market as your weekend entertainment. The combination of that prime location, comfortable accommodations, and the feeling that you’ve discovered something special rather than just booked another hotel room — that’s what keeps people coming back. It’s particularly perfect for couples who want to feel like they’re experiencing the real London rather than just visiting it.
Apartments in London suit remote teams with Georgian bay windows, fast fibre, and shared studios overlooking courtyards.

The decor is beautiful! There is so much attention to detail. Our bed was sumptuous, super comfy, and very large. The room was exactly as I'd hoped it would be, and the staff were very warm and friendly, and also fulfilled my room request, which I very much appreciated. The roll top bath in the room was gorgeous, and we absolutely loved the bookcase secret area! We had a lovely stay, and my sister was thrilled. Thank you very much!
