Hotel Description
You know what struck me first about The Resident Soho? It’s actually quiet – which honestly surprised me given it’s right on Carlisle Street, just a minute’s walk from the chaos of Oxford Street. I mean, Soho isn’t exactly known for peaceful nights, but somehow this place manages to feel like a proper retreat without being stuffy about it. The building itself has this understated thing going on – no flashy entrance or doormen in ridiculous uniforms, just clean lines and that sort of effortless London sophistication that doesn’t try too hard.
The rooms are what really won me over though. They’ve got this whole minimalist vibe but actually comfortable, not like those places where you’re afraid to touch anything. The beds are properly good (I’m talking about that sweet spot where you don’t sink in but don’t feel like you’re sleeping on concrete), and there’s enough space to spread out your stuff without playing Tetris with your suitcase. What I really appreciated was the kitchenette setup – nothing fancy, but if you want to grab some bits from the Marks & Spencer on Regent Street and have breakfast without paying hotel prices, you’re sorted. The bathrooms are sleek without being cold, and honestly, the water pressure is better than what I’ve got at home.
Location-wise, you’re basically in the sweet spot of central London without the tourist madness of Leicester Square breathing down your neck. Carnaby Street is literally around the corner if you’re into shopping, and you can walk to Covent Garden in about ten minutes when you feel like dealing with crowds. But here’s the thing locals know – Dean Street and Frith Street are right there, which means you’ve got some of the best restaurants and pubs in London within stumbling distance. The French House, Quo Vadis, that little Vietnamese place on Wardour Street that doesn’t look like much but does incredible pho – it’s all right there. Getting around is dead easy too since Oxford Circus tube is practically next door, though honestly, you’ll probably end up walking everywhere because central London is surprisingly compact once you’re actually in it. The 8.9 rating makes total sense – it’s not trying to be the fanciest place in London, but it nails what it’s going for: a genuinely comfortable base that doesn’t make you feel like you need to dress up to walk through the lobby.
