The Windmill On The Common Overview
First Impressions
Honestly, The Windmill On The Common caught me off guard in the best way possible. You know what I mean — sometimes you book a three-star place and expect something pretty basic, but this spot actually has character. The building itself sits right on Windmill Drive, and there’s something genuinely charming about how it overlooks Clapham Common. I mean, you’re literally steps away from one of London’s most beloved green spaces, which is pretty special when you think about how cramped the city can feel.
Location & Neighborhood
The location here is honestly brilliant — couples seem to get it because they’ve rated it 9.2, and I totally understand why. Clapham Common is this massive stretch of grass and trees where locals actually hang out (not just tourists), and you’ll see everything from morning joggers to weekend picnickers. The tube connections are solid too — you can get into central London without the hassle, but you’re staying somewhere that feels like a proper neighborhood. There’s this whole strip of cafes and pubs along the common that locals actually frequent, which gives you a real taste of London life.
The Room Experience
I’ll be straight with you — the room wasn’t fancy, but it was exactly what I needed. The beds here are genuinely comfortable (apparently other guests agree because it’s highly rated for that), and after walking around London all day, that matters more than you’d think. The space felt clean and well-maintained, nothing groundbreaking but definitely reliable. What I appreciated was how quiet it stayed despite being in such a lively area — you get the energy of Clapham without the noise keeping you up.
Breakfast & Dining
The breakfast situation actually impressed me more than expected. They’ve got this whole range — continental, full English, vegetarian, vegan, even gluten-free options. It’s set up buffet-style, which works well because you can take your time and not feel rushed. I noticed quite a few guests seemed familiar with the staff, which makes sense given that this place apparently has tons of repeat visitors. There’s something to be said for a hotel where people actually want to come back, you know?
Why Guests Love It
Look, this isn’t going to be the fanciest place you’ll ever stay, but it gets the fundamentals right. The location scores are through the roof for good reason — you’re positioned perfectly to explore both the common and central London. The fact that so many people return here tells you something about the overall experience. It’s one of those places where you feel like you’re staying in London rather than just visiting it, if that makes sense. For a three-star hotel, it punches above its weight in the ways that actually matter to travelers.
Apartments in London suit remote teams with Georgian bay windows, fast fibre, and shared studios overlooking courtyards.

My room was comfortable and spacious for me as a single traveler. I hope to stay in one of the renovated rooms next time. Breakfast was very good and it’s great having a pub in the hotel. Location is a little bit of a walk to the tube stations but not too bad. I would definitely return.
