The Z Hotel City Overview

First Impressions

Walking up to The Z Hotel City on Fleet Street, you immediately get that “small but perfectly formed” vibe. This three-star spot doesn’t try to be something it’s not — it’s compact, modern, and honestly quite clever about making the most of its space. The lobby is tiny, but there’s something refreshing about a hotel that cuts straight to the point without all the unnecessary grandeur. It’s the kind of place that appeals to savvy travelers who appreciate efficiency and authenticity over pretension.

Location & Neighborhood

You know what’s brilliant about this place? You’re literally in the heart of London‘s financial district, surrounded by centuries of history and iconic landmarks. Fleet Street means you’re walking distance from St. Paul’s Cathedral, the Thames, and all those winding City lanes that tourists usually miss. I mean, you can grab your morning coffee and be at the Royal Courts of Justice in about two minutes. The couples who stay here absolutely love it — and honestly, I get why they rate the location so highly. It’s genuinely one of the most strategically positioned hotels in the capital.

The Room Experience

Here’s where The Z Hotel City really surprised me — the beds are genuinely fantastic. I was skeptical at first because the room itself is quite compact (think smart, not cramped), but they’ve clearly invested in proper mattresses and bedding. The design is minimalist in that intentional way, with everything you actually need built right in. There’s a clever little workspace, decent lighting, and the bathroom — while small — feels modern and well-thought-out. Every detail serves a purpose, which is refreshing.

What Makes It Special

The thing that struck me most is how many people come back here repeatedly. That’s not something you see everywhere, especially at this price point. The staff seem to recognize returning guests, and there’s this sort of understated efficiency about the whole operation. It’s not flashy, but everything works exactly as it should. The building itself has character too — you’re staying on one of London’s most famous streets, after all. There’s genuine pride in how the hotel is maintained and operated.

Why Guests Love It

Look, if you want a massive spa and room service until 3 AM, this probably isn’t your place. But if you’re the type of traveler who wants a really good night’s sleep in the middle of everything that matters in London, then yeah, this works brilliantly. The value is solid, the location is unbeatable for exploring the City, and you’ll actually sleep well — which, let’s be honest, is half the battle when you’re dealing with jet lag or long days of sightseeing. Plus, there’s something quite satisfying about staying somewhere that’s figured out how to do the essentials really, really well. This hotel proves that three-star doesn’t mean compromising on quality.

Best hotels in London blend skyline conservatories, afternoon teas, and spa suites scented with English botanicals.

  • Orlando from Netherlands (8/10)

  • Alison from United Kingdom (7/10)

Location is very central and convenient. Disappointed with breakfast as wasn't enough. I was only interested in the fruit, oats and yogurt but there was only a couple of spoonfuls of each item for everyone so I literally had a desert spoon of each so as to leave some for the 2 people standing next to me.

  • Johanna from United Kingdom (9/10)

Location was perfect. Staff friendly. Handy cafe/bar. Well stocked hot drink options inc oat milk in room

  • Maria from United Kingdom (7/10)

Great location I don't mind the size of the room which was fine for our trip.

  • Ibrahim from United Kingdom (7/10)

The location perfect with city thames link station couple mins walk.

  • Scutt from United Kingdom (7/10)

Extremely compact room – if two people, both must enter the from the same side as it fits snugly against the wall. However, bed is very comfortable and a good size, the bathroom is compact but excellent in that shower easy to manipulate – no struggling with hot and cold, or turning on. A great spray from the nozzle of the shower! Extremely clean, good sized towels. Sufficient hanging space for outdoor coats, jackets, dresses, sundries against the wall so easy to access. Television screen in a great place squarely opposite the bedhead so good viewing for those desiring it.

Convenient location, clean and tidy good value for money.
